Welcome to WikiProject Law Enforcement. Several Wikipedians have formed this collaboration resource and group dedicated to improving Wikipedia's coverage of Law enforcement and the organization of information and articles on this topic. This page and its subpages contain their suggestions and various resources; it is hoped that this project will help to focus the efforts of other Wikipedians interested in the topic. If you would like to help, please join the project, inquire on the talk page and see the to-do list below.
Principles
edit- Join, Create, Assess. This project needs to expand, add your name to the list on the participants subpage if you're interested and get stuck in writing a law enforcement article, add the banner and put it up for assessment, and please assess as many existing articles as you can! Ensure to check out the scope of the project!
- No vandalism, no conflict. This project, by definition, strives continually for community good will, and a reduction in vandalism. Let members of this project set excellent examples as honest, hard working, polite Wikipedians! If there are problems with a particular article in the project, please add it to the Article Watch section of the vandalism subpage. Vandalism will be reverted on sight.
- Read the bulletin board. With such ground to cover, and so much work still to do, it is vital that all users check the bulletin board frequently for news, updates and important requests.
Scope
edit- Inclusion: Topics directly related to policing and law enforcement, including types of police, specialized roles, organisations, institutions, departments, agencies, uniforms and ranks, crime science theory and research, investigative techniques and procedures, tools, equipment and assets used, services provided, related statistics, governance, empowering legislation and administration, issues and controversies, history, pioneers and notable individuals. Offender rehabilitation, Victim support, Police and law enforcement employee related education, sports, recreation, off-duty activities and involvement in community service. Miscellaneous policing related topics.
- Exclusions:
- Crime and criminology, sociology, law, and similar topics that are related to police work but are more concerned with society or the criminal justice system overall than law enforcement alone.
- Forensic sciences and techniques that have more general applications in medicine and the sciences, or require specialists or experts to use in an investigation, or are not commonly and frequently used or applied directly by police officers.
- Topics that are predominantly related to the military, intelligence, espionage, surveillance or national security despite having a minor law enforcement related connection.
- Firearms and ammunition, except specific standard issue weapons commonly used by Police forces and ammunition with specific policing applications (rubber bullets, sponge rounds)

Guidelines
edit- Neutral point of view applies here! All articles on Wikipedia, including ones on this WikiProject, MUST, with NO EXCEPTIONS WHATSOEVER, be written from a neutral perspective! This means that they must not be written from a liberal perspective that is unsympathetic to cops, if not full of negative prejudice against them, or from the opposite perspective.
- Rather, articles should describe all the major viewpoints, controversial or not, and tell all the facts, without treating as fact the opinions (or vice versa); they should also describe the pros and cons of the subject.
- NPOV applies to all subjects worldwide, not just simply the Western world!
