Regarding when to open the article.

@Sabbatino: When exactly did sources have to do with just a small portion of the article?

Vegas "first" record

Opening a discussion on this, since we have three options based on the complex history of the league,[1] and thus there may be unregistered IPs trying to change what is currently on here:

The Vegas Golden Knights became the first expansion team to make the playoffs in their inaugural season since the ...

• Option 1: 1979-80 Whalers and Oilers

  Rationale: Per the terms of the 1979 NHL–WHA merger, the former WHA clubs were treated as expansion teams

• Option 2: 1967-68 Flyers, Kings, Blues, and North Stars

  Rationale: These teams were literally playing their first ever seasons. Depending on the source, the former WHA clubs do not count because they existed prior to the merger.

• Option 3: 1995-96 Colorado Avalanche

  Rationale: Depending on the source, the Colorado Avalanche are a totally separate club from the Quebec Nordiques

• Option 4: 1926-27 Chicago Black Hawks and New York Rangers.

I would second Zzyzx11 idea but with a condition on option 2 as four expansion teams were guaranteed to make the playoffs in 1967–68, Vegas obviously had no such guarantee this year. As for option 3 that's a no, as they were a relocated team no different than Calgary was in 1981 or the Coyotes in 1997. Option 4 is not really workable. Deadman137 (talk) 10:55, 27 March 2018 (UTC)

Also an option, would be the 1925–26 Pittsburgh Pirates, which is the most recent expansion year in which an expansion team made the playoffs in their inaugural season and was NOT guaranteed to make the playoffs like 1926-27 and 1967-68. Conyo14 (talk) 05:05, 28 March 2018 (UTC)

Play in game

While it is probably unlikely to ever happen (though the Flyers and Panthers could play one), if a game of this nature was ever required would we add a section to the playoff article, the season article or both to cover a game like this? The main reason that I ask is that a play in game would be played under Stanley Cup playoff rules. Deadman137 (talk) 09:04, 7 April 2018 (UTC)

It will not happen this year. Though if it ever did, I think it should go in both articles. Considering this tiebreaker game would be basically be the 83rd game in the regular season but also the game decides the tiebreaker. It would be a simple section right below the section labeled "playoff teams" but above the "bracket" section. That's my opinion at least. Conyo14 (talk) 02:17, 8 April 2018 (UTC)

I don't know if it would formally be considered game 83 by the league like what baseball does because such a game would be played under Stanley Cup playoff rules. I think that you are right that the section should be before the bracket, though maybe it should be before the playoff teams/seeds section as well. My reasoning for that is that such a game would determine the final playoff team in a conference and it would make sense to be before those two sections from a chronological viewpoint.

In addition if such an event we're to ever occur we should probably use the playoff series template for a one game setup to document what happened. Deadman137 (talk) 14:04, 8 April 2018 (UTC)

Inclusion of TVA and U.S. regional broadcasters on the schedule tables

Does the consensus on Talk:2015 Stanley Cup playoffs#Inclusion of TVA/French broadcasters on the schedule tables and the like still stands, to only include just the NBC and CBC/Sportsnet networks? I just reverted the addition of TVA and any U.S. regional broadcaster in the first round, assuming this was the case. Zzyzx11 (talk) 04:40, 9 April 2018 (UTC)
