Playoff Structure

I've been trying to determine the playoff structure of the Men's and Women's events and this is what I think it is:

@Edwyth: If you look at the results page of the official website and click on day 12 it appears that there will only be one game in the men's/women's playoff session 1, witch is not consistent with your purposed playoff structure. This is by no means conclusive and I would expect the WCF to clarify when they publish the broadcast schedule. Mwaltondx (talk) 00:36, 25 November 2021 (UTC)

@Mwaltondx: I've looked at the schedule and it didn't make sense how they were planning to have only two games but three Qualifiers (unlike in 2018 where there was only two qualifiers) so I tried to develop a plan that only involved a maximum of two sessions. I'm also confused how Mixed Doubles has Three Sessions, but only 2 Qualifiers spots, I am sure it will make sense when it happens, but right now I feel in the dark about the process. @Edwyth: The playoff structure is as follows: MXD playoff 1: B2 v A3, A2 v B3; MXD playoff 2: A1 v B2/A3; MXD playoff 3: B1 v A2/B3; Women playoff 1: 2 v 3; Men playoff 1: 2 v 3; Women playoff 2: 2/3 v 4; Men playoff 2: 2/3 v 4. Mwaltondx (talk) 00:30, 29 November 2021 (UTC)

netherlands women and mixed doubles

I maintain that they were never to be included as per the WCF statement of them as hosts on September 10. Perhaps they declined during discussions, I don't know, but some kind of statement to what actually happened would help.18abruce (talk) 12:39, 24 November 2021 (UTC)

@18abruce: If you look at the current world rankings for Netherlands in Women's (36th) and Mixed Doubles (40th), they probably didn't see it as worth their time to attend the event for those competitions, even if they qualified as hosts. I read the September 10th article https://worldcurling.org/2021/09/oqe2021-host/ and it includes the link to https://worldcurling.org/olympic-qualification on it. So even in the September 10th, article, they are still pointing to that qualification process that includes "The host National Olympic Committee of the Olympic Qualification Event 2021". I think you are a great editor and I consider you a friend in such that sharing Curling wikipedia space can make one friends. I was fully willing to concede if the WCF responded to my email with the answer that the host no longer qualified, but to me they responded with a link that says they did. Scotland or GB

According to the World Curling website, it's Scotland that are playing in this event ( https://worldcurling.org/events/oqe2021?pageType=teams ). While they would ultimately compete as GB in the olympics pending qualification, surely this article should be updated to reflect that it's Scotland and not GB competing? This is an event for NOCs only, so it should be GB. The question of why the WCF is listing them as Scotland is a good one though. The other issue is that England's teams are not eligible to play in this event, only Scotland on behalf of GB, so it would not be appropriate to list them as anything other than GB.18abruce (talk) 12:55, 16 December 2021 (UTC)

I believe Russia is also competing as Russia and not ROC. That should be changed as well. -- Earl Andrew - talk 14:48, 16 December 2021 (UTC)

Russia competed as RCF as they did at the last worlds. The website and scoreboards continued to call them RUS or Russia. If we are not going to use the National Olympic Committees here please make a proposal for reformatting the whole thing, or notating it in some way if you like. It would be inconsistent with most Olympic qualifying pages but hockey (for one) maintains links to the sport federations rather than the NOCs. I maintain that it is inappropriate to use Scotland for the GB entry since none of the other GB curling federations are eligible for this tournament, but that is my opinion.18abruce (talk) 20:03, 16 December 2021 (UTC)
