Start date
edit“There were 1,548 notifications of iGAS recorded in England between 12 September 2022 and 8 January 2023. Notifications of scarlet fever have also seen a large increase, with 37,068 infections reported in England during the same period”
The article literally says it there, 12 September 2022.
Btw the word “notification” sound a bit immature , can’t you find a more mature word to replace it? 2A02:A44C:6682:1:C8DA:9486:F8CC:BFB0 (talk) 00:43, 16 January 2023 (UTC)
- That isn’t the start of the outbreak, just the timeframe which the UKHSA is giving numbers from. And about the "immature" wording, notification is what the UKHSA has said in their data. greyzxq talk 07:50, 16 January 2023 (UTC)
Not enough updates
editMomentarily the status of the disease on the basis of deaths & cases is data from 15/01/23. In fact there should be a daily update, because there could have been hundreds of deaths & cases since then. 2A02:A44C:6682:1:6068:A2F8:2224:118 (talk) 18:07, 26 January 2023 (UTC)
- Updates will be made as more data is released. As of the time I’m writing this, no new updates have been released from the UKHSA since 15/1/23. greyzxq talk 15:57, 30 January 2023 (UTC)
Country names in Article
editAs a way to show respect for native speakers in Britain. I think we must add the country name in it’s native language between (). For instance:
- Scotland = (Alba)
- Wales = (Cymru)
- Northern Ireland/ Ireland = (Éireann)
And I’ve added Northern Ireland’s flag too! 2A02:A44C:6682:1:5CEB:D39D:AFCD:D30B (talk) 19:44, 29 January 2023 (UTC)
- About the NI flag, look at WP:IMOS FLAGS as I said. And there’s no point adding the native names of the country because it could just cause confusion, and this is an encyclopaedia. greyzxq talk 19:54, 29 January 2023 (UTC)
- Your a very strange person, to put it lightly.
- I was only being respectful!

- I found out why NI flag is not aloud when I looked it up I see it is not a official country and it is part of 4 countries cluster so that is Britian also the flag was sort of made up I think and not designed by politicians or military entities so it is unrecognized so that is why now I know 2A02:A44C:6682:1:987:156:E7A5:75AE (talk) 21:46, 18 March 2023 (UTC)
Article’s wording
editAccording to Oxford University Dictionary & Cambridge University Dictionary… “Cases” is the correct word.
I’ve changed it back to “cases” in the article, because it must fit the criteria of Informant Authority. 2A02:A44C:6682:1:41D9:C9CB:C73:4E94 (talk) 09:48, 30 January 2023 (UTC)
- Is this what your comment about cases and notifications was about? It should be notifications for two reasons. First, the WP:RS uses that terminology. Notifications are discussed - total notifications, not total cases. Second, they can only record notifications of cases, not cases themselves, because many cases go unreported. A dictionary definition is fine, but the meaning of the data (and the terminology used) is given by the source (UK Health Security Agency), which deliberately uses the word that you have objected to because of its specific meaning. This is a value commonly presented in public health literature. Referring to the notifications as cases can be very misleading when actual cases can follow different trends from the notifications and affect a vastly different number of people. They usually correlate directly, but they are meaningfully different quantities. Dcs002 (talk) 23:35, 6 February 2023 (UTC)
- @Dcs002 (talk · contribs) Isn’t it better to use “reported cases” then instead. Because “notifications” are associated with social media platforms. 2A02:A44C:6682:1:C565:8127:EDBE:FBC0 (talk) 20:10, 7 February 2023 (UTC)
- "Notification" pre-dates social media by decades. In the UK, many infectious diseases are "notifiable" meaning that the authorities have to be informed by a "notification". (See: here). It is the correct word. "Reported cases" can be used but it lacks accuracy and begs the question, reported to whom?. Graham Beards (talk) 20:34, 7 February 2023 (UTC)
- @Graham Beards (talk · contribs) Ok, now I understand. At first I didn’t know that the word notifications had more meanings. It’s also a good thing that you noted a source for proof. 2A02:A44C:6682:1:C565:8127:EDBE:FBC0 (talk) 21:00, 7 February 2023 (UTC)
Too long
editI think we have to remove the text at death’s & cases because we already have the tables and that is probably enough information because when reading the article it is a bit too much information and take too long to read and that can be distressing to some readers that want only want the information but do not want to read a lot. 2A02:A44C:6682:1:61C6:CF1D:B4A6:A926 (talk) 14:01, 17 March 2023 (UTC)
