I have titled this as 2022–23 on the assumption that a regional final will be played in 2023. If the regional final is actually played in 2022, or if there is no regional final (a possibility with the 2024 WC being expanded to 20 teams, so teams might go direct to a global qualifier), we can move this to just 2022. Schedule

edit

@Bs1jac and Lugnuts: Hi. Greece seems to have released the schedule: [1] for their group. Human (talk) 13:10, 2 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

@A Simple Human Thanks. Hopefully something else to back this up will be available soon. Bs1jac (talk) 13:11, 2 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thanks! Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 13:29, 2 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Old paragraph

edit

This paragraph doesn't make any sense for the 2022-2023 European qualifiers. "The first phase of European qualification for the previous T20 World Cup, originally scheduled to be held in 2020, was postponed to 2021 and eventually cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[2] As a result, only four teams had the opportunity to qualify from a regional finals event.[3]" --Moedk (talk) 09:44, 28 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

It is there to give some context as to why Germany and Jersey have byes. Bs1jac (talk) 09:28, 30 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
But the paragraphs I quoted with COVID et al. are irrelevant to the 2022-2023 European qualifiers. The last paragraph in the section I agree is relevant telling that Germany and Jersey have byes, because they topped the previous Regional Final. Moedk (talk) 15:47, 30 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
They have byes because they won a tournament that only featured four team due to the pandemic. I have removed the bit about the previous sub-regionals being delayed, and just left that they were cancelled. Bs1jac (talk) 07:33, 31 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

Split into two articles?

edit

Given that the three sub-regionals each have two groups and a play-off system (instead of a ingle group as in 2018-19), I wonder if it might be worth considering making this page just for the sub-regionals, and have another page for the regional final. I count something like 76 games for the sub-regionals alone. The finals will include Germany, and any of Jersey, Ireland, Scotland and he Netherlands who don't reach the Super 12 stage of the 2022 ICC Men's T20 World Cup, so some relatively big teams in there. Normally I wouldn't suggest it, but Europe has so many teams competing that it might be worth considering later on. Bs1jac (talk) 10:04, 30 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

I won't be against a split, by my count the sub-regionals will be 78 games, and with the finals there will be close to 100 games in total. Moedk (talk) 11:58, 9 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Squads

edit

@Bs1jac and Lugnuts: I dont know if Czarsportz is right or not but is the inclusion of Egeji correct in Serbia squad? CI says he played for Nigeria before. Players migrating to other countries are common in the subcontinent, but I dont think I ever heard someone from Nigeria move to Serbia or any other non Test countries to play. This is very unusual. Or perhaps they aren't the same person? Human (talk) 08:47, 7 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

It's actually not uncommon for people from African countries such as Nigeria to end up representing European nations in sports like football and athletics, so I wouldn't be surprised. Don't think I spotted this guy in CI when I put the table together. Bs1jac (talk) 08:53, 7 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
If this is his Instagram, then, yes, he plays (or has played) for both, Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 08:53, 7 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Ghent Oval

edit

@Bs1jac: don't sweat it, as far as I can tell Ghent Oval is in Meersen, Ghent, I think it is here on Open Street Map, and if you look in their editor, it has aerial of the ground, as has Bing --Moedk (talk) 00:15, 9 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Moedk: Yep which is why I think it is the same place, and that the ground name should probably be Ghent Oval (Meersen being e.g., a suburb of Ghent); but we'll stick with Cricinfo for the time being. Bs1jac (talk) 13:35, 10 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
ICC Europe insist on calling it Ghent Oval, thought it relevant since it now has a page named Meersen Moedk (talk) 00:16, 29 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Rescheduling

edit

@Bs1jac Is there any new information about the rescheduling after the unfortunate events? ESPNcricinfo is now showing the Gibraltar-Israel and Malta-Hungary matches to be scheduled for tomorrow in Ghent, instead of as canceled Mashfi23 (talk) 15:15, 2 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Mashfi23 Hmm cricclubs is showing Gibraltar-Malta and Israel-Hungary in the 5th/7th place playoffs at Brussels at 11 and 16:00, which suggests the semis are cancelled as Gibraltar said earlier. Bs1jac (talk) 15:20, 2 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
but yes it could be taht todays games are tomorrow and the 5/7 games are Monday as originally planned! Bs1jac (talk) 15:22, 2 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
They can very well look to get the matches played tomorrow, provided the match officials are completely safe. Will be very good if the matches are played though; would always prefer teams advancing in a tournament without getting any byes *eyes the ICC* Mashfi23 (talk) 15:26, 2 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Mashfi23 If you look at CI now, they do show Israel playing Gibraltar tomorrow... but they label this as the 7th place play off. So they def have something wrong (either it is not the 7th place play off, or it is not Gib-Isr). Currently Cricclubs is the one that looks correct, they might both be wrong. Agree, I hope the do play tomorrow. The issue is probably if the ICC umpires are not fit. Bs1jac (talk) 15:34, 2 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Bs1jac ESPNcricinfo might well be wrong, but the labeling has been there from before actually- they were calling the consolation semi-finals "7th place play-off" and "5th place play-off" all this time. So don't know about the scheduling, but the match titles have been wrong from before- it's not new Mashfi23 (talk) 15:40, 2 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Group A Play-offs

edit

@Lugnuts:, @Bs1jac: hello there, hope u both are fine and doing good. I had a question regarding Group A play-off matches. topper of each group will play in final to determine the advancing country to Regional finals. and similarly matches are to be played for 3rd, 5th and 7th place. But why not 9th???? Aditya tamhankar (talk), 12th July 2022, 10:57 IST

Hi! All well here, thanks. Good question - not spotted that before. I guess time and/or resources to do the match? I don't know is the answer - maybe Bs1jac would have more info. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 06:27, 12 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

As far as i know its just scheduling. Four games per day only. Bs1jac (talk) 06:36, 12 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Regional final

edit

@Lugnuts and Bs1jac: Hi. Did Jersey qualify for regional final here? They can no longer qualify for the playoffs in the global qualifier so I'm assuming they are now in the regional final just like how Germany qualified? Thanks Human (talk) 17:31, 12 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

@A Simple Human Yep Bs1jac (talk) 17:32, 12 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Good spot. The ever complex rules of who gets to the Regional Final! Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 17:33, 12 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Lugnuts and Bs1jac: It still is kind of confusing. What will happen to Netherlands in this case? Do they wait for ICC rankings if they dont qualify for the WC or they have something to do here? Human (talk) 17:45, 12 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
@A Simple Human If netherlands fail to progress this week, they go to the regional final. Unless they get a spot by rankings, which I am not sure about. Also cant remember if there is a possibility of Ireland/Scotland dropping if they dont do well enough at this years WC (sure those two are obvious if I bothered to look it up though!) Bs1jac (talk) 17:48, 12 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Best I could find was this that says the Dutch will head to this tournament IF they don't reach the final in Zimbabwe. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 17:49, 12 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Lugnuts So I think only the top 8 from the 2022 tournament qualify automatically, plus 2 hosts and 2 or 3 highest ranked sides (depending on how the WI and US do). Everyone else goes into a regional qualifier. Ned are probably unlikely to get there on ranking, but not sure we can be 100% until after the 2022 WC and then whenever the cutoff date is. Seems possible that Sco/Ire could also be involved, but they are more likely to take a place based on ranking. Cant really be sure, but Jersey def will be involved. Bs1jac (talk) 18:00, 12 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
12 teams qualify directly to 2024 T20 WC. The two hosts West Indies & USA, top 8 in the 2022 T20 WC, 2-4 highest ranked teams Nov. 14, depending on the how many of WI & USA is in top 8.
So unless Ireland, Netherlands or Scotland gets in top 8, the odds that they all play regional final is high. Ireland and Scotland might make it on ranking, but then they would have a great World Cup, and then they are probably in top 8 anyway. Moedk (talk) 18:42, 12 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Bs1jac: Czarsportz said a few days ago that the regional final would be held in Scotland in July 2023. Is there any other sources to back this up? Human (talk) 09:59, 9 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

@A Simple Human Somebody mentioned it in a reply to one of his posts, and he took it as true (as is often the case). Others have said it is not confirmed. Bs1jac (talk) 10:02, 9 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Bs1jac any source for the March-April 2023 dates, it's sounds early for Scotland to host, and as mentioned the chatter says July, but no reliable written source for that yet. Moedk (talk) 11:58, 30 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Moedk No i think something was misread/misinterpreted, probably due to someone using czarsportz as a primary source (which it is not). I have removed all dates Bs1jac (talk) 12:13, 30 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Cricclubs

edit

@Bs1jac From watching Qualifier C, I think it's safe to say that Cricclubs is secondary scoring for the purpose of overlay for the video. Regarding Ritered Out/Hurt, when scoring in Cricclubs, Retired out is under Wicket, while Ritered Hurt is under Actions in the scoring app, så it's an easy mistake to make if you are not aware of it. Moedk (talk) 22:31, 24 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Moedk Yep they have done it before. Unfortunately Cricinfo gets its cards from cricclubs until they later receive official cards. The French player was originally labelled retired hurt and they changed it during the second inning to retired out. Mind you, Cricinfochave made their own errors today too. A Bulgarian player is missing from the scorecard, and they havent mentioned that game had a DLS calculation. All reported so hopefully fixed soon. Bs1jac (talk) 22:36, 24 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Actually I just saw on FB someone who appears to be Cricclubs COO, requesting scores in the Jersey region, for the Challenge League B I think, the dates fits, with training in the use provided. So as I mentioned, I don't think they are the primary scorers. Moedk (talk) 22:57, 24 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
As it happens, it seems that CC were correct - the ICC scorecard said he was retired hurt but Cricinfo say they have asked the ICC who confirmed that he actually retired out (tactically). Bs1jac (talk) 12:18, 25 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Squad for the Regional Final

edit

Danish Cricket Fedrations announcement of their squad for the Regional Final, also mentions that ICC has allowed for a squad of 14 + 1 traveling reserve. Moedk (talk) 09:15, 30 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Cricclubs toss

edit

FYI, cricclubs nearly always says someone won the toss for abandoned games (same as it usually says on the scorecard that someone won the toss as soon as the team sheets are updated but it is a default statement that is often wrong; CC is not reliable until the toss appears on the ball by ball tab). There was no toss for either game on 27 July. Bs1jac (talk) 16:25, 27 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
