- ... that Anne Hatchard (pictured) was voted best on ground at the 2022 AFL Women's Grand Final? Source: https://www.womens.afl/news/92802/best-in-crow-anne-hatchard-adds-bog-medal-to-third-flag
Created by Hawkeye7 (talk). Self-nominated at 05:21, 11 April 2022 (UTC).
- Full review to follow (a preliminary DYK check seems to check out though), but I was wondering if another hook could be proposed here. The hook may not really appeal to non -fans of the AFL or those who live outside Australia. I think a more promising hook could be based on this:
Melbourne, who usually play home matches at the 9,000 capacity Casey Fields oval in Cranbourne, had their home preliminary final moved to the 100,000-seat Melbourne Cricket Ground, which was the first time the Australian Football League's largest venue had hosted an AFL Women's match.
One issue, of course, is that it's talking about the preliminary final (what Americans would call a semi-final) rather than the Grand Final itself. Another option could be the low attendance for that match being blamed on last-minute schedule shenanigans, though I think that would be too negative. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 08:20, 12 April 2022 (UTC)- That hook would be great except that it doesn't include this article. Hawkeye7 (discuss) 12:05, 12 April 2022 (UTC)
- What do you mean by "it doesn't include this article"? That the quote is about the preliminaries rather than the final? Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 12:08, 12 April 2022 (UTC)
- That hook doesn't contain a link to 2022 AFL Women's Grand Final, which is the article nominated for DYK. Hawkeye7 (discuss) 21:08, 12 April 2022 (UTC)
- Perhaps wording can say something like "preliminary [final] for the 2022 AFL Women's Grand Final" or something to that effect? Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 23:34, 12 April 2022 (UTC)
- No, the preliminary final is a different match, with its own article. Hawkeye7 (discuss) 00:33, 28 April 2022 (UTC)

- That hook would be great except that it doesn't include this article. Hawkeye7 (discuss) 12:05, 12 April 2022 (UTC)
- I really don't think the original hook is working out so I suggest that a completely new hook be proposed. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 10:34, 29 April 2022 (UTC)
- ALT1: ... that the first goal of the 2022 AFL Women's Grand Final was kicked by Jasmyn Hewett (pictured), a late inclusion to the team?
- Source: "The inclusion of Jasmyn Hewett as ruck cover for the suspended Montana McKinnon paid immediate dividends, taking a mark on the goal-line and converting a set shot for the opening goal, 10 minutes into the game." [1]
- Still prefer the original hook. Hawkeye7 (discuss) 21:18, 29 April 2022 (UTC)
- The article was created on time (note that it was recently promoted to GA status and so is also eligible per that). No close paraphrasing was found and a QPQ has been done. ALT1 is better than the original hook but I think a hook about this quote
Harris became the first woman to play in three grand finals playing for three different teams; all of them against Adelaide.
may be the best possible option at this point. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 15:00, 30 April 2022 (UTC)
- Substantial GA, on excellent sources, no copyvio obvious. I like the original hook best, but suggest to just turn it around, mentioning the game first. The image is licensed and attractive, much more attractive by dynamic action vs. the other, standing. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:32, 3 May 2022 (UTC)
- ALT2 ... that at the 2022 AFL Women's Grand Final, Anne Hatchard (pictured) was voted best on ground?
- Hawkeye7 (discuss) 21:35, 3 May 2022 (UTC)
- thank you, approve that also. We are supposed to raise curiosity. In the unwanted case that the image is not taken, we should perhaps spell out AFL, and/or say where. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:16, 3 May 2022 (UTC)
- Hawkeye7 (discuss) 21:35, 3 May 2022 (UTC)
- Would the following ALT also be okay? The promoter can decide what hook to use if it's approved:
- ALT3 ... that in the 2022 AFL Women's Grand Final, Tayla Harris (pictured) became the first woman to play in three different grand finals for three different teams?
- Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 07:15, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
- This one seems more accurate than everything else proposed above. 117.97.199.77 (talk) 07:17, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
- The other hooks are not inaccurate. Hawkeye7 (discuss) 07:56, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
- This one seems more accurate than everything else proposed above. 117.97.199.77 (talk) 07:17, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
- Requesting feedback from Gerda Arendt and Hawkeye7 regarding ALT3. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 07:33, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
- I'd prefer to work on new things to being called back to this. The image is not as powerful as the original, and the hook seems more about the player than the match. Perhaps someone else will approve it? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:40, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
- We cannot use a picture that is not in the article. It is also a dubious honour and
articles and hooks that focus unduly on negative aspects of living individuals should be avoided.

Hello. I will be doing a good article review of this article. I aim to complete my review within the next day or so. Just so you know, I am familiar with the sport.
If you would like to return the favour, I have several good article nominations active right now, which you can find at WP:GAN. Steelkamp (talk) 03:03, 22 April 2022 (UTC)

Steelkamp (talk) 04:33, 22 April 2022 (UTC)- Same goes for the Demons. Steelkamp (talk) 04:33, 22 April 2022 (UTC)
Leading goalkicker Ashleigh Woodland booted two goals
– Is that leading goalkicker for the season or for that match? Steelkamp (talk) 04:33, 22 April 2022 (UTC)- For the season. Added. Hawkeye7 (discuss) 07:32, 22 April 2022 (UTC)
- There is no mention of Chloe Bremner (supported by the Australian Girls Choir) in the prose, only the infobox and the scorecard. Steelkamp (talk) 04:33, 22 April 2022 (UTC)
while Tyla Hanks had the job on Phillips.
– Sounds like unencyclopedic language. Steelkamp (talk) 04:33, 22 April 2022 (UTC)- Wanted to avoid saying "tagged" twice. Oh well. Hawkeye7 (discuss) 07:32, 22 April 2022 (UTC)
Adelaide continued its attacks, but pressure from the Melbourne defence, and resulting inaccurate kicking, led to four more behinds.
– Grammar is off here. Steelkamp (talk) 05:13, 24 April 2022 (UTC)- Re-written. Hawkeye7 (discuss) 06:34, 24 April 2022 (UTC)
The match commenced with Adelaide's key midfielders Erin Phillips, Anne Hatchard and Ebony Marinoff starting in the centre square.
– No mention of Melbourne's players? Steelkamp (talk) 05:13, 24 April 2022 (UTC)
- Added a bit. Hawkeye7 (discuss) 06:34, 24 April 2022 (UTC)
The third quarter opened with Ponter taking a strong mark in the goal square of a long-range kick from Woodland, which she then converted.
– This should be reworded. No one unfamiliar with AFL media lingo would know what "converted" means. Steelkamp (talk) 05:13, 24 April 2022 (UTC)- Actually, that is one they would be familiar with, from other codes. Re-written. Hawkeye7 (discuss) 06:34, 24 April 2022 (UTC)
Pearce reinforced the back line, and Tayla Harris was moved into the ruck. Melbourne's Kate Hore kicked a goal after marking a long-range shot from Harris, who needed to lift to avoid becoming the first woman to lose three grand finals against Adelaide playing for three different teams.
– I'm not a fan of "needed to lift" considering Australian rules football is a team game and not reliant on the performance of any single player. It's also not clear if this is referring to Harris or Hore. Steelkamp (talk) 05:13, 24 April 2022 (UTC)- Agreed. Re-written. Hawkeye7 (discuss) 06:34, 24 April 2022 (UTC)
Adelaide captain Chelsea Randall kept her quiet
– It's not clear who this is referring to. Steelkamp (talk) 05:31, 24 April 2022 (UTC)- Re-written. Hawkeye7 (discuss) 06:34, 24 April 2022 (UTC)
The Adelaide defence that also included Sarah Allan also stood firm.
– Could be reworded. Steelkamp (talk) 05:31, 24 April 2022 (UTC)- Re-written. Hawkeye7 (discuss) 06:34, 24 April 2022 (UTC)
Verifiable with no original research
edit- My search on Earwig's Copyvio Detector turned out fine. Steelkamp (talk) 04:33, 22 April 2022 (UTC)
The match was broadcast by the Seven Network and simulcast on Foxtel, Kayo Sports, the afl.com.au and womens.afl websites, and on the AFL and AFLW apps. It was also available on radio nationally via ABC Radio, Triple M and SEN.
– Source does not show Foxtel or Kayo. Steelkamp (talk) 04:33, 22 April 2022 (UTC)- Was willing to drop Kayo, but dammit, I watched the match on Foxtel. Added another source. Hawkeye7 (discuss) 07:32, 22 April 2022 (UTC)
Adelaide, known as the Crows, finished the 10-game regular season in first position with nine wins and one loss, and the competition's highest percentage, 216.6%. Their only loss came in round six against the Western Bulldogs by 1 point at Norwood Oval, who finished outside the top six and did not qualify for the finals series.
– Unsourced. Steelkamp (talk) 04:17, 24 April 2022 (UTC)- Added a reference. Hawkeye7 (discuss) 05:27, 24 April 2022 (UTC)
Melbourne, known as the Demons, also lost only one match throughout the regular season and claimed nine wins. Their percentage of 186.5% saw them finish in second position and, like Adelaide, they had a bye in the first week of the finals and hosted the winner of the second qualifying final.
– Unsourced. Steelkamp (talk) 04:17, 24 April 2022 (UTC)- Added a reference. Hawkeye7 (discuss) 05:27, 24 April 2022 (UTC)
and put in a late entry for mark of the year.
– I don't think you should say this when the sources don't say mark of the year. Steelkamp (talk) 05:31, 24 April 2022 (UTC)- Actually, they do, but re-phrased. Hawkeye7 (discuss) 06:34, 24 April 2022 (UTC)
