Statistics

Just a simple discussion about my concerns in regards to the team statistics on this page. I’ve noticed @Ruggalicious has changed the Points and Tries by week to Points and Tries by game. I understand the logic behind this but my problem is that there’s going to be a lot of empty and unnecessary cells as only two teams play mid-week fixtures. Furthermore the purpose of these tables are for the overall amount of points and tries each province scored for and against during that week of the round robin. Lastly consistency is another issue as previous seasons before this have all used the same concept and keeping it together with the standings progression table is something else to consider too. I think once these underlying problems are sorted first then we can commit to making this adjustment. Kidsoljah (talk) 19:08, 10 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Kidsoljah, I think you need to have another look at the draw. There are seven Wednesday games scheduled (not two) and all provinces play them (there won't be empty cells). All teams play 10 games, one of them on Wednesday, in a period of 9 weeks. This has been explained in the "Format" section of the article. Also, as I've said before, consistency for the sake of consistency alone makes no sense. Think of the information you want to provide. In the statistics tables, what's the point of providing info about points and tries per week if not all teams play the same number of games in a given week? There's no point. The interesting bit about these stats is how many points and tries are scored per game. Hence the change I made. It's different for the standings table and progression tables. That's not about individual games, but about the season and how teams got to their position on the table at the end. There's no link in purpose between the standings and progression tables on the one hand, and the stats about scoring on the other hand. So a change to the points and try scoring stats tables doesn't have to lead to changing the way we present the standings and standings progression. Keen to hear the view of @Rugbyfan22. In my opinion here, it should be points and tries per game and not week. It's easier for the reader to understand as any reader who's not read through the rules and regs this year in detail would see the Auckland scored 81 points in the week, and then could be confused when they scroll up to see that they only scored 36 in their first match. Most other tournament statistics tables will score by match also, even if there's a double gameweek in there. Rugbyfan22 (talk) 08:51, 11 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
