Time
editSince Central Daylight Time is in effect in Missouri, the difference between local time and UTC should be 5 hours, not 6. I would change it, but I don't know whether the local time is correct and UTC wrong, or vice versa. 23.28.74.44 (talk) 03:37, 28 June 2022 (UTC)
This has been fixed by another editor (not me). RickyCourtney (talk) 21:39, 29 June 2022 (UTC)
Article title
editWouldn't "2022 Mendon, Missouri train derailment" be a much better title? Mjroots (talk) 06:31, 28 June 2022 (UTC)
- Sure, if there was another train derailment in Missouri, in 2022, that was notable enough for its own Wikipedia article. Unless there’s further need for disambiguation, this title follows established standards. Plus according to the sources the incident didn’t actually happen in the town of Mendon. Odd coincidences
editJust noting for now the odd spate of fatal Amtrak collisions with vehicles at level crossings: 4 occurred within 24 hours including the Southwest Chief 4 described in this article:
- San Joaquins 713, approx. 1 PM PDT on June 26 at a private crossing near Brentwood, California[1][2]
- Crescent 20, approx. 6:20 PM EDT on June 26 near Birmingham, Alabama[3]
- Wolverine 354, early on June 27 near Detroit, Michigan[4]

Train consist
editThe train consist is quite detailed and difficult to source. The best I have found so far is a forum post that reposted a trainspotting website: https://www.amtraktrains.com/threads/southwest-chief-derailment.82424/page-4#post-964194 ... if there is a better source, it should be added to the article. Photographs now confirm that AMTK 133 and a Viewliner baggage car were involved; other aerial images could be used to piece together specific Superliner cars. Cheers, Mliu92 (talk) 15:45, 30 June 2022 (UTC)
The consist included the following locomotives and railcars (in no specific order; feel free to edit if needed):[1]
- 133, GE P42DC
- 166, GE P42DC
- 61053, CAF Viewliner-II Baggage
- 31029, Pullman-Standard Superliner-I Coach/Baggage
- 32104, Bombardier Superliner-II Sleeper
- 33046, Bombardier Superliner-II Lounge
- 34026, Pullman-Standard Superliner-I Coach
- 34102, Bombardier Superliner-II Coach
- 38060, Bombardier Superliner-II Diner
- 39045, Bombardier Superliner-II Transition/Dorm

Overall: A new and long-enough article. QPQ is unrequired, this s your second DYK. No secondary issues, Earwig marks Violation Unlikely 22.5% but "Close to 20 local and state law enforcement agencies, ambulance services, fire departments and medical helicopter services responded" needs to be reworded as it is the same text that appears in the cited source and it is not a sentence that couldn't be paraphrased. The hook is interesting. (CC) Tbhotch™ 22:16, 3 July 2022 (UTC)

“Response” section
editDo we need the ”Response” section? Currently it’s just a short list of politicians offering their “thoughts and prayers.“ That happens after every mass casualty event and doesn’t seem to add any additional context or information for the reader. RickyCourtney (talk) 15:46, 5 July 2022 (UTC)
- I think that the two first things about the congress person and governor could be eliminated as you said. I think that the involvement of the boy scouts were some of the most interesting tidbits of information, so that could probably be moved up to a section about the boy scouts.
