Referee:
edit- Isn't Michael Mothershed (Pac-12) the referee for this game? Socalphoto (talk) 22:21, 26 December 2022 (UTC)
- @Socalphoto He was replaced by Jeff Servinski (Big Ten) who lives nearby since Mothershed couldn't make it to the game. I added a Tweet (not the best source, but it's from the verified account of the website we source the referees to normally) to verify and this is all noted in the "Game summary" section. - Gamebook shows Mothershed. Socalphoto (talk) 01:46, 27 December 2022 (UTC)
- @Socalphoto They must not have updated it, I'm guessing they'd had it in there from when they were first announced and forgot to change it. PCN02WPS (talk | contribs) 02:16, 27 December 2022 (UTC)

- The article meets DYK requirements and a QPQ has been provided. Although both hooks are cited inline, I am only going with the referee angle as I think that should intrigue even non-college football fans (ALT1 is a bit too specialist I think). It's cited to two sources, one of which is Twitter. Given that there are two sources and that the Twitter source appears to be a reliable sports writer, I will accept it in this case. However, I do think the hook may need a bit of rewording since "travel complications" seems too vague: would it be better to explicitly mention that it was due to the original referee's flight being canceled? I think that would catch attention more than the vague "travel complications" wording. Another possible angle could also be to mention that it was supposed to be his last game before retirement, but I'll leave it to you if you want to pursue that angle as well. - I like the flight cancellation angle, here's a few alternates:
- ALT2: ... that a canceled flight forced the 2022 Quick Lane Bowl to use a substitute referee?
- ALT3: ... that the 2022 Quick Lane Bowl had to use a substitute referee after the original referee's flight got canceled?
- ALT4: ... that the referee assigned to the 2022 Quick Lane Bowl was not able to make it due to a canceled flight, so the game had to use a substitute?
- @Narutolovehinata5: I'm fine with any of these so it's up to you. PCN02WPS (talk | contribs) 19:16, 30 December 2022 (UTC)
- Sounds good. Either ALT3 or 4 is fine, ALT2 is rejected as the wording isn't as intriguing. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 11:43, 31 December 2022 (UTC)
