What even is that table?

edit

It is so wrong I can't even begin to list the reasons. You should just remove it and wait until official announcement on January 6 as per the last article directly from US Soccer. 2603:8080:4A02:7AFC:DD2D:EBA5:4C79:71B5 (talk) 15:41, 31 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Actually the hell is even this whole article?

edit

There are so many fact errors. US Soccer never announced jack in July relating to USL Championship. US Soccer never announced a first round of 56 teams. What even is that schedule table? This whole thing needs to be rewritten. 2603:8080:4A02:7AFC:DD2D:EBA5:4C79:71B5 (talk) 15:44, 31 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Maps?

edit

I can maybe understand the first map, but I really don't see the reason to have a separate map for each round. I'd like a bit more consensus before I delete it outright, but I really don't see the need for it. Jay eyem (talk) 23:43, 6 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

I agree. I came to the page a couple days ago and thought it was redundant but was waiting to see if others thought so or it was just me. Chris1834 Talk 15:34, 7 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
Agreed. One map showing all the teams is okay, but that should be it. Lanway (talk) 00:10, 12 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Maps in later rounds

edit

There's so many teams on the first map in the "Teams" section it's hard to visually see who is still in the tournament at the later stages. I made a map today for the third round. It doesn't take up any additional vertical room on the page as it is next to and the same size as the table for teams entering in the same section.--Lloyd2539alex (talk) 18:11, 18 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

It isn't at all hard to see where the teams that are still in the tournament are. Plus the changes made look horrendous on mobile. If anything, that section needs to be scaled back. There is no reason to have both a list of the teams entering from previous rounds, as it is already previously listed, on top of their sorting into groups for the draw. One map is enough. I agree with the not needing of the list of teams entering from previous rounds. It adds unwanted length to the article (especially on mobile) and is just one more thing to scroll through to find unduplicated information. Chris1834 Talk 13:14, 20 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

I wasn’t aware of the mobile issues. One map sounds good. Lloyd2539alex (talk) 21:00, 18 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

/* Upsets */ updated upset list to current round

edit

This page should have an updated upsets section. Part of what makes an inter-division tournament great is a lower division team upsetting a higher division team. The list doesn't take up much room and can be at the end along with the goal scoring table. Other tournament pages like the NCAA basketball tournament have this same kind of thing. Instead of visitors having to browse through the matches to see who upset who they can go straight to an already summarized list. It helps provide useful and fun info about this tournament and doesn't take away from the page at all.--Lloyd2539alex (talk) 19:21, 18 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

I am not sure it is strictly speaking necessary to include a list of upsets like the NCAA tournament does. This is out of step with how these results are reported on other domestic cups around the rest of the world (e.g. England, Germany, Italy, Spain, etc.) Adding a table for upset starts to approach a WP:NOTSTATS concern, especially since there is very little prose in the article itself. I don't see a compelling reason to make this addition. Jay eyem (talk) 20:16, 18 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Part of the fun of a tournament is an upset. It’s a big deal for the smaller teams if an upset occurs. Just because other cups around the world don’t report on it doesn’t mean it’s not a big deal to American soccer fans. As far as WP:NOTSTATS goes what more context do you need than it’s a knockout tournament where upsets are enjoyed by the upsetting team and fans in general. People coming to the page wondering “I wonder who the upsets were this round,” would rather be able to look at a summarized list than sift through all the matches. It’s interesting info that a page visitor might want to know. Lloyd2539alex (talk) 20:48, 18 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

I really don't think it's necessary, but I wouldn't mind some additional input from other folks watching the page or from WP:FOOTY. Jay eyem (talk) 13:08, 19 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Separation of rounds

edit

Why do some rounds have their own sections and other rounds combined? All rounds should have their distinct sections as is the suggested MOS for knockout cup articles. It doesn't matter if multiple rounds were drawn on the same day - they should still be separate. Rupert1904 (talk) 05:37, 30 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Do you have a link to this manual of style for domestic cups? I did a cursory search and didn't see anything. And maybe include a good example of what you're talking about? Judging the article as it is now, I don't see a compelling reason to include the massive list of previous round winners in third round and round of 32. It just details the same information as above and is especially redundant when you also include the groups for the draw. It might be better to just note which clubs are new entrants in the round in the draw box as a note and delete out the huge box listing every club advancing from the previous round. I also don't see a compelling reason to separate the round of 16 and quarterfinals from the semis and final. No new teams are entering at that point, and even though there was an additional draw to determine matchups, it just looks strange to separate them out in the knockout table. You can just write a bit of prose to explain the multiple draws and that should suffice. Jay eyem (talk) 15:12, 30 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
