"Stanley Cup Engraving" section added and hidden for now until formal engravings (June 15, 2023)

edit

As noted in the Page History:

> "adding (and hiding) placeholder section "Stanley Cup Engravings + player notes and such" until we get a formal list of who is engraved and thus some of this section will be a little bit to speculation and conjecture; i did admittedly copy and paste the subsection from 2021 Stanley Cup Finals as a template; and for wings vs centres vs both I used the Roster table on this page and in-game lines used"

Most of this section will be cleaned up in the following months, and eventually when the Stanley Cup is formally engraved.

I was proactive to start this section, but I did hide it using the Hide function " < ! - - Text - - >" until it can be formalized and cleaned up more. Duyneuzaenasagae (talk) 05:21, 15 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

@The Kip I noticed your major edit of removing my section of the hidden "Engravings and player notes", because you believe it would affect the InTheNews block on the front page, so I get it and understand. I will kind of admit I thought it was redundant since I had hidden the note, but I get better to not have it in just in case someone else edits and decides to un-hide it.
Nice to save it as a note and template for when the list does eventually get formalized and released, so I expect you'll re-add it in yourself when the time comes.
Other than the official names (players and staff) once they are released (i.e the first half of the section), does the second half of the section, the rest of the "Engraving Notes" (i.e. trivia, eligibility of certain players) and "Player Notes" (of the extra players at the end that assuredly don't get engraved and such) and such pass bar with you? Any room for improvement?
Again thanks for heads up. Duyneuzaenasagae (talk) 01:03, 16 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks to @The Kip and @Conyo14 for adding in the engraving section and cleaning up and refining my original drafts (I was away from the computer when the engravings were officially shown). 👍😊 Duyneuzaenasagae (talk) 20:12, 8 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Player notes (and adding other players who played for Vegas in the regular season)?

edit

@The Kip Just wondering your opinion on adding Daniil Miromanov and Sheldon Rempal on the "Player notes". They both played regular season games for Vegas, and obviously weren't on the Cup but would most likely get rings anyways.

It's true that they weren't listed among the playoffs healthy scratches in Game 5 (https://www.nhl.com/gamecenter/fla-vs-vgk/2023/06/13/2022030415#game=2022030415,game_state=final,game_tab=stats), but both were a part of the team that did play regular season games, and Daniil was even a part of the celebrations and parades (via Instagram, but only pictures, since he doesn't have a linkable account: https://www.instagram.com/p/CualE3KPhkC/?img_index=2 and https://www.instagram.com/p/CtndhmArYYl/?img_index=1)

Every other player who had regular season games (on the 22-23 VGK wiki) is mentioned in the section already.

Thoughts? Duyneuzaenasagae (talk) 16:28, 15 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

I get where you're coming from, but I restricted it to Finals scratches due to the pre-Finals list being considerably bigger; virtually the entire Henderson roster was called up at somepoint or another, so I ultimately decided to keep it about the same length as the Avalanche last season and stick with guys who were just scratches in the Finals. The Kip (talk) 16:32, 15 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
On one hand, I get it; Henderson players who could be called up, but be healthy scratches and ultimately not play for Vegas before being reassigned back to Henderson; and using the playoff roster is a good system.
On other hand, those other Henderson guys ultimately did not dress or play for Vegas, unlike the 2 players players I did mention who did in play for Vegas (Miro even had like 14 games, 4 games under Doro). Who on earth knows what reason they didn't make the playoff scratches (season over, limit on black aces, injuries, etc.)
Maybe one of us can look at the NHL scores for VGK's playoff campaign and see if we missed anyone.
Ultimately, I'll leave it to you, but just wanted to give my perspective. Duyneuzaenasagae (talk) 18:14, 15 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
In the Engraving notes section, there are some prior articles which mention players who were not engraved but received a ring. The rings are obviously not as important as the Cup, but receiving one is still an honor. Rings are given the same day as the banner raising (I think). Conyo14 (talk) 18:44, 15 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
Went back through all the pre-Finals games for VGK - appears the only black aces that didn't end up on the Finals roster were Morozov, Chayka, and Rempal, which is a small enough number to add to the list. I'll go ahead and do that.
For Miromanov, however, he wasn't a scratch at any point, so for our purposes he unfortunately doesn't make it on here. The Kip (talk) 18:11, 17 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Rename to Final

edit

The NHL and league do not call their championship series the Stanley Cup Finals. Its called the Stanley Cup Final. This is futher evidenced by the very logo that is on the page. Its time to make this change to the page and every other page. Drop the "s" 216.175.28.83 (talk) 21:09, 6 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

WP:COMMONNAME says no. There's a wide consensus on this wikiproject, as indicated at the top of this page, to leave it as Finals. The Kip 22:39, 6 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
They are wrong. The logo on the page says Final. 2600:8801:7112:6B00:98A9:4BC3:3122:48E0 (talk) 02:38, 2 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

So, we're just going to ignore how the league refers to its championship series because we prefer this way? Got it. Wikipedia is becoming a joke. 216.175.28.83 (talk) 23:09, 7 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Reliable sources prefer it this way. Sorry that your personal beliefs disagree with the consensus of news media. The Kip (contribs) 06:00, 8 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
What news media. The news media is following league precedent and calling it the final. You can read, right? Passed 1st grade? 216.175.28.83 (talk) 00:17, 9 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

The NY Times, CBC, ABC, CNN, AP, USA Today, all are calling it the "Final" this isnt my preference. These are the gold standard news media. You are out of touch with reality. 216.175.28.83 (talk) 00:35, 9 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Feel free to put in a new RfC. However, as the Final is not just 2024-onwards, it affects all to 1914. I think you'll find some pushback. Conyo14 (talk) 01:49, 9 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
