Antisemitism
editWhat is the source for this claim: "Several antisemitic incidents took place during the protests." in the lede? Antisemitic according to whom? Makeandtoss (talk) 12:22, 1 June 2024 (UTC)
- Based on the Allegations of antisemitism section it appears to be according to The Independent,[1] as well as Columbia’s President,[2] The NYT reference states
"Columbia officials have previously said there have been several antisemitic incidents on campus"
, but this isn't doesn't appear to be related to the protests, so will update sources based on content wording. CommunityNotesContributor (talk) 13:55, 1 June 2024 (UTC)- Important to note that Columbia officials have a conflict of interest and their statements should not be said in WP voice; also I am sure there's at least on RS that gave their own assessment whether this was true or misleading. Makeandtoss (talk) 15:39, 1 June 2024 (UTC)
- the source right now directs to an article claiming the protests are not antisemitic Theoisnotalive (talk) 03:34, 18 August 2024 (UTC)

Columbia Antisemitism Panel
editI've checked this article for information on the recent placement of three administrators on leave over antisemitic text messages during an antisemitism panel (New York Times). Given that placing deans on leave for conduct is rather serious, I think this and other articles relevant to Columbia University's responses to the encampments on their campus. ⸻PKMNLives — 🖛 Talk 05:06, 23 June 2024 (UTC)
- The incident is unrelated to the 2024 Columbia University pro-Palestinian campus occupations. It may be appropriate for other wiki articles. Burrobert (talk) 12:47, 23 June 2024 (UTC)
- maybe part of some aftermath section? User:Sawerchessread (talk) 16:13, 23 June 2024 (UTC)
- Afaict, the discussion at which these incidents occurred was not triggered by the campus occupations. There appears to be no connection. Burrobert (talk) 12:43, 24 June 2024 (UTC)
- As a student and employee at Columbia University, the panel at which these incidents occurred was 100% because of the campus occupations. As is every "dialogue across difference" session, as is Title VI upcoming antisemitism training. It's all related and to think otherwise would be naive. 69.127.106.9 (talk) 02:40, 23 September 2024 (UTC)

NYPD date incorrect
editAccording to the article introduction,
The first encampment was dismantled when university president Minouche Shafik authorized the New York City Police Department (NYPD) to enter the campus on April 17 and conduct mass arrests.
The NYPD entrance and arrests took place on April 18, not April 17. This is indeed confirmed later in the article:
On April 17,[...] The next day, the Shafik-authorized New York City Police Department Strategic Response Group entered the encampment to arrest protesters as Columbia University employees cleared the tents.

- Thank you! Did the fix in the intro. Bluethricecreamman (talk) 16:37, 18 July 2024 (UTC)

Hi! Please remove the following sentence, as it is a misparaphrasing: "Deputy Editor Noah Bernstein of the Columbia Daily Spectator said that outside media coverage was generally slanted against the protesters." The quote was given in response to a question about "what is happening on campus." It was not given in specific reference to pro-Palestinian protests, as its placement on the "2024 Columbia University pro-Palestinian campus occupations" Wikipedia page suggests, or pro-Israel protests, for that matter. Thanks for your help! User17903 (talk) 13:29, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
- @User17903 reading the source, I don't see the problem with the statement. The article opens with
More than 100 protestors were arrested in an April 18 police sweep of the “Gaza Solidarity Encampment” on the Columbia University
and the entire article is talking about these specific protests, so it seems clear that he is referring to them as such. Note how he adds[...] more intense tilt on the negative elements of the demonstrations

Empty threat of expulsion
editThis article currently says, "The administration threatened to expel students who participated in the hall takeover."
This needs to be updated with the fact that this was an empty threat.
