Ukrainian involvement

When was Ukraine considered an allied power against Iran? ~2026-35064-69 (talk) 22:07, 26 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Ukraine incident is totally irrelevant to the war. Belligerents columns should be revised. Hosein (talk) 08:14, 27 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
That is interesting. Randomperson122 (talk) 16:30, 27 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Should this be in the "other parties" section of the nations agasint Iran for this regional conflict? Randomperson122 (talk) 23:29, 27 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Not really. They still need to have one hell of a role in the conflict before getting there. GenuineArt (talk) 02:26, 28 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Wikipedia is based on reliable sources, not our own opinions. Saying, "Ukraine attacked an Iranian ship, therefore Ukraine has joined the war" is original research. The sources say that Ukraine struck an Iranian vessel that was well inside Russian waters, and was being used to transport military cargo to Russia. That would make it part of the Russo-Ukrainian War, not the Iran War. – Asarlaí (talk) 09:11, 28 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
"Ukraine has joined the war" is not the standard for inclusion in the infobox. Do you really think that all of the parties listed currently in the infobox have reliable sources stating that they have "entered the war"? The standard is whether reliable sources state that Ukraine has engaged in belligerent actions (or has been a recipient of belligerent actions). Ukraine has engaged in belligerent actions, as reported on by many reliable sources. JasonMacker (talk) 14:27, 10 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Seconded   MWFwiki (talk) 00:46, 16 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
It should be verified whether the other Gulf countries included have actually carried out certain military attacks and declared to have done so, or whether these are just rumours written by the press. ~2026-36818-47 (talk) 11:10, 28 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
it is relevant as it could bring the two wars closer according to this article [1] Durranistan (talk) 16:43, 28 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Have you fact check that? Randomperson122 (talk) 17:52, 28 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Edit request 29 July 2026 Add Mohammad Pakpour to infobox

Please change by adding Mohammad Pakpour (with an X to indicate his passing) to the infobox as an Iranian leader. This is clearly desirable as he was the commander-in-chief of the IRGC at the start of the war, and was replaced by Ahmad Vahidi, who appropriately IS listed on the commander list as living; clearly we agree this is one of the few roles that is worth listing, so the initial holder of this role should certainly be in the table.

Here's one source of many which are already in the article https://www.nytimes.com/2026/02/28/world/middleeast/israel-iran-assassination-khamenei.html.  Preceding unsigned comment added by Scienceturtle1 (talkcontribs) 04:46, 29 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Done Marked him as KIA since he was a military commander who was killed by enemy action. Day Creature (talk) 16:21, 18 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Infobox photo

I believe the Infobox should feature photos of the war instead of a map, Photos would better emphasize the human scale and reality of the ongoing conflict. Cena332 (talk) 18:09, 5 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

I support this. The map is just a blue blob covering Iran now as well as a horde of red indicators. The map should be kept in the article body, but the infobox should instead feature a selection of images represent the war. Cortador (talk) 19:46, 5 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Agreed. Even if it's not over yet. The map can be moved down below. Javert2113 (Siarad.|¤) 22:42, 7 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, we can show the destruction wrought by the war in Iran, the Gulf and Israel. Alaexis¿question? 21:24, 8 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
especially the Minab school massacre Hu741f4 (talk) 22:13, 9 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Agree that the map is messy but disagree on infobox photos. My understanding is we don't do this for ongoing wars (see Russia-Ukraine War, Tigray Conflict, etc.) and even if we did use photos, Iran risks being underrepresented due to the internet outages that make getting photos from within Iran more difficult and it would probably result in a series of photos that are overwhelmingly just Israeli and American jets and strikes per what is seen at the Twelve-Day War article. PaulRKil (talk) 15:16, 11 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
What should be put instead? Militant.Insurgency (talk) 08:48, 15 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
The thing is, these conflicts have actual invasions or insurgent movements that control territory, th2 2026 Ira war doesn't. Militant.Insurgency (talk) 08:49, 15 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
  • My view is that the map used as the lead image would be better if it identified strikes up to a certain point in time. I disagree with the use of a collage for the lead image. MOS:LEADIMAGE states: It is common for an article's lead or infobox to carry a representative image ... to give readers visual confirmation that they've arrived at the right page. This is not the same representing the article pictorially - particularly when a collection of images add to further bloat an already bloated infobox, images place side-by-side lack visual acuity and the images selected do not reside prominently in the collective consciousness such that they are readily associated with this particular war. Cinderella157 (talk) 01:03, 12 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Why do we need anything? Slatersteven (talk) 10:03, 12 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
That's fair. There's disagreement over an image collage, but nobody seems to oppose moving the current map to the article body. I'll do that soon. Cortador (talk) 09:33, 21 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

If we were to add it we would use File:Coalition of Political Forces of Iranian Kurdistan.png, however the logo is already next to their name in the infobox. Where did you want it added? Richard-of-Earth (talk) 03:37, 15 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Is this a real flag? Can you provide a source? Militant.Insurgency (talk) 08:45, 15 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
and . Although the logo is rendered with "alliance" sometimes. It seems to be a translation preference. Richard-of-Earth (talk) 18:43, 16 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Yemen war update in this Iran War

Just to be fair, the civil war in Yemen kinda merged with this 2026 Iran war, so we should consider the Houthis as a co-belligerent in this war. It may seem that the war in Yemen and the war in Iran are seperate, but both are interconnected. Yet, I didnt see any update in the Iran war infobox warmap regarding recent updates (like the map with blue cross and red dots). The addition I would like to see in the infobox map (in red dot) are the following:
1. Najran Airport Strike on Aug 4 (17°36′41″N 044°25′09″E)
2. Strikes in Najran Province on Aug 6 (17°29′30″N 44°7′56″E)
3. Srikes on Al-Mocha Port (13°19' N, 43°15' E)
4. Aramco facility strike in Najran (17°35'30.79" N, 44°21'31.21" E.)
5. Strikes in Yemen's Marib City (15° 31' 4.01" N, 45° 26' 57.52" E)
6. Strikes in Yemen's Hadramout government military camps (16° 08' 13.06" N, 47° 14' 02.76" E) HmmOily (talk) 02:03, 19 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Do RS consider the Iran War and Yemeni Civil War to be effectively merged? Grilledcheeseisgreat 18:17, 20 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

"Each night, the ships are scheduled to move in one big outbound line during a certain time slot and one big inbound line during a separate time slot. The ships then transit through the southern channel based on U.S. military guidance. The U.S. Air Force has fighter jets that protect against Iranian cruise missiles and drones. Zoom in: The operation was made possible by a recent two-week U.S. Central Command military campaign that degraded Iran's radar and maritime surveillance systems, the officials said."

"On some nights over the last few weeks, they note, the amount of oil moving out of the Gulf was 15 million–20 million barrels."

"The war must come to an end at some point,” Pezeshkian said Friday in comments reported by Iranian media.

“Ghalibaf was less direct but said there will be no security if the country ignores its economic crisis, "No matter how much military power we have, if our people are struggling and the country lacks financial circulation and economic growth, we will not achieve progress,” the parliamentary speaker said.""

This article doesn't reflect the status quo which that Iran is losing the ability to block the strait while it's own maritime trade is being almost entirely blockaded and the economic pain is starting to make the Iranian leaders sing a different tune.
