The history regarding the 210th Fires Brigade is completely inaccurate. The 210th Fires Brigade carries the lineage of the 210th Field Artillery Brigade (previously Group) that was in Germany from 1945 to 1989.[1] Its official lineage can be found at this US Army Center of Military History link.[2] The lineage of 2d Infantry Division Artillery can be found here.[3] While the assets of the former Headquarters & Headquarters Battery, Division Artillery were apparently used to create the 210th Fires Brigade in Korea, the lineages of the 2d Infantry Division Artillery and the 210th Fires Brigade are completely different. Also, the 210th provides support to, but is not a part of, the 2d Infantry Division. When the 2nd Infantry Division reorganized into the modular configuration, Division Artillery ceased to exist and field artillery battalions were assigned directly to each Brigade Combat Team. Divisions have not had numbered field artillery/fires brigades assigned since the World War I era. The Field Artillery assets of the 2d Infantry Division are contained within each brigade combat team. They are: 1st Battalion, 15th FA; 3d Battalion, 17th FA, 1st Battalion, 37th FA; and 2nd Battalion, 12th FA. There is no need for "Division Artillery" on top of this. The 210th has historically been a corps artillery unit, but since there is no corps between the division and Eighth Army, it provides support directly to the division. If it were part of the division, it would not have its own separate shoulder patch.VilePig (talk) 23:52, 26 February 2010 (UTC)
