    From what I have been reading, it is slightly complicated. The British official historian of the Somme campaign criticized all the New Army divisions for lacking training in fire and movement, ill-experienced officers, mollycoddling staff officers, and a lack of initiative throughout their organizations. Per this source, historians have picked up on this. However, Peter Simkins argue that the situation is more complicated. Open to thoughts on this.EnigmaMcmxc (talk) 15:18, 22 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
