Best hook EVAR! DYKed day of posting, new enough, long enough, excellent cite quality, hook directly quoted, QPQ complete. Too bad we don't have an image for this, perhaps someone in the area can take one for us? Maury Markowitz (talk) 18:21, 28 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
Can this DYK be closed and moved to a preparation area? No Swan So Fine (talk) 09:43, 9 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Shouldn't "was" be in plain text? Philafrenzy (talk) 21:43, 9 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Freedom4U, Maury Markowitz, and No Swan So Fine: I want to get the opinion of @RoySmith: since none of the sources confirm that Nancy Reagan (NR) was hexakosioihexekontahexaphobic. A phobia is an Anxiety disorder defined more specifically as a type of mental disorder. Her aversion to the number 666 was based on religion and that may fit the definition of hexakosioihexekontahexaphobic. The sources specifically say "...avoid the "number of the beast." and In the New Testament Book of Revelations, the number 666. It certainly makes me click the way the hook is written, but I am concerned with the accuracy of it since sources do not use the term. Bruxton (talk) 16:01, 12 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Ah, I was just fixing a minor grammar error, don't mind me :) I'll leave that up to Maury and Swan. :3 F4U (they/it) 16:03, 12 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
I don't know about all that other stuff, but the Chicago Tribune source certainly doesn't say anything about "hexakosioihexekontahexaphobic", so we shouldn't say that. It does however say, "a consortium of 18 friends", but the article says "twenty friends", so that needs to be resolved. RoySmith (talk) 16:14, 12 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
I did say I was gonna be uninvolved, but the LA Times did list this as an example of hexakosioihexekontahexaphobia. :3 F4U (they/it) 16:24, 12 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
The LA Times is behind a paywall for me, but AGF. The 18 vs. 20 thing still needs fixing, though. RoySmith (talk) 16:39, 12 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
@RoySmith and Freedom4U: Archived link for the LA Times. They do not say she had it they say: There are plenty of people who avoid the number 666. There’s even a phobia associated with it: hexakosioihexekontahexaphobia. Seriously. (Fear of the number 13 is triskaidekaphobia, and fear of numbers in general is arithmophobia.). Bruxton (talk) 18:22, 12 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Bruxton: I think that article is pretty clear about calling it an example of hexakosioihexekontahexaphobia, but if you need a source that's more clear. Newsweek also states this: Fear of 666, also known as hexakosioihexekontahexaphobia, has even gripped the rich and famous. When Ronald and Nancy Reagan retired to Bel-Air, Calif., in 1989, they bought the house at 666 St. Cloud Road--and changed it to 668. [1] :3 F4U (they/it) 18:26, 12 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Freedom4U: Good find, but I still have difficulty giving a person any sort of medical diagnosis like this based on a journalist's opinion. I hesitate to say someone who is religious and fearful of the number of the beast has a disorder. If I promote it it may end up at errors. So be ready to defend the diagnosis. Bruxton (talk) 18:57, 12 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
I appreciate this, and I am prepared to defend the retrospective diagnosis - which is intended in a light hearted manner. I think the change was probably more related to a chronic fear of bad publicity. The eminent theologian Timothy Beal said in his 2018 Princeton University Press book The Book of Revelation: A Biography of the Reagan's move that "In fact there is a name for this fear of the number 666: hexakosioihexekontahexaphobia ... This fear is indeed prevalent in our Revelation-infused Western society. Consider these hexakosioihexekontahexaphobic cases. In 1988 Ronald and Nancy Reagan left the White House and purchased a $2.5 million ranch house in the Bel-Air neighbourhood of Los Angeles whose address was 666 St. Cloud Road. Before moving in they had the address changed in city records to 668 on account of a mutual concern that it could be interpreted as a sign of association with Satan"[2]. Past tense

edit

This article uses past tense, and indeed a quick look at Google Maps reveals that no structure currently occupies the property. Is anyone able to provide information on when or why the site was razed? 97.102.30.205 (talk) 17:17, 23 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
