editAnyone know Percy Hobart's rank at the time he was given command of the 79th? I'm guessing at Major General. DJ Clayworth 14:28, 5 May 2005 (UTC)
- Looks correct. Attained Maj Gen in 1937. Only later rank is as Lance-Corporal in Home Guard (doubt that counts!) Ref: Churchill's Generals Folks at 137 06:36, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:79th armoured division badge.jpg
editImage:79th armoured division badge.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.Betacommand (talk • contribs • Bot) 04:17, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
Use dispute
editI have quoted the rule that the logo was in use 50= years ago and is therefore non-copyright Folks at 137 06:24, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
- I wouldn't worry to much about actual copyright. The people administering it on Wikipedia (the 'copyright police') only seem to have a very superficial understanding of the legal issues. Copyright exists to ensure that a person responsible for a creative work can get their due payment for that work. As such, anyone re-using a work can do-so provided that it doesn't deprive the originator of due payment, in other words, the copyright holder would have to prove that he/she lost money that they could have otherwise obtained from the work. A Regimental insignia from over 50 years ago that has also been reproduced in-miniature in millions of model kits the world over is unlikely to be something that copyright pertains-to. If it comes to it, it can always be used under 'fair use'. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.40.248.93 (talk) 15:20, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
