Groundbreaking
editThe Groundbreaking has already begun a sign on the news and someone should change to that the plan has been revised and is construction has begun - User:Trulystand700
Image
editYou removed the 7-Line Banner which was from the MTA's website. I understand using MTA images is a grey area. But why did you also remove the planning document image that showed the route of the 7 line extension? This is from a public planning document, released to the public and very relevant to the topic at hand.
Original proposal
editThe article says that the extension was originally proposed in connection with the West Side Stadium plan. Is there any support for that? My recollection is that the idea had been kicking around for quite a while, as a way to boost development in the area and specifically to make the Javits Center more accessible and therefore more attractive as a convention site. I think it would be accurate to say that the proposal received renewed attention in connection with the Stadium plan, though. JamesMLane t c 19:47, 24 March 2006 (UTC)
How wide?
editAs I understand correctly, the 7 line was originally BMT with tunnels having Division 2 clearances, and was reworked for narrower IRT trains. Will the extension be wide enough that, were it extended to 14th Street, it could carry Canarsie Line trains? Jim.henderson (talk) 14:43, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
- Actually, it's B Division. No, the tunnel is not wide enough for BMT trains. The 7 was always IRT clearances, BMT trains just did not run through services to Queensborough Plaza. Epicgenius (talk) 23:25, 18 March 2013 (UTC)
Construction and operating schedule
editIt has become clear that the extension will be complete by December 2013, but operation will only begin in June 2014. Since intuitively it does not seem to make a lot of sense that MTA needs six months to test systems and qualify crews, I speculate that the delay is due to MTA's desire to complete CBTC installation, whose completion schedule is behind the extension's completion schedule. For purposes of this article, does anyone have any citable information? Or perhaps I'm wrong about the time delay? Raryel (talk) 11:40, 22 August 2013 (UTC)
- @Raryel: I guess so. Or, it could be that the extension has taken a little longer due to Hurricanes Irene and Sandy. I guess we will not know until the MTA actually opens the station. Epicgenius (talk) 14:39, 23 December 2013 (UTC)
New Jersey Extension
editThe section suffers from "current-ness" - almost all of the short paragraphs or groups of short paragraphs read like current events from a specific time in the past. There are references to proposals which have been dropped, and speculation about future possible plans which did not come to fruition, and are now in the past. That being said, attacking this is tricky; it would be easy to remove too much. I will try to prune, and would welcome assistance, but the section needs to be periodically reread and reedited against including future possible events which never were. Jd2718 (talk) 05:32, 10 May 2014 (UTC)
How often are they going to keep pushing the opening of the 7 train extension back?
editApologies for editorializing here, but I wonder based on the delays for the 7 train extension, how long till the 2nd avenue line actually opens? Afronig (talk) 18:03, 27 December 2014 (UTC)
