Early Assignment
editThis article indicated assignment to III Fighter Command and the 72d Fighter Wing at the beginning of the unit history without references. The support added for the 72d FW only gives the years the group was assigned, not the exact dates in the chronology. There is no support for assignment to the III FC, and IMO, it is more likely that as a light bomber unit the group was assigned to III Air Support Command, but I have not been able to find suitable support for this. The article on the 491st Fighter-Bomber Squadron should be merged into this article with a redirect to the Components section. Unlike the other three squadrons assigned to the group when it was a training unit during World War II, the 491st was not subsequently activated during the Cold War as an interceptor unit. It was only active for two years during the war, and has no notability independent of the group. --Lineagegeek (talk) 18:59, 21 September 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose, on the grounds that symmetry of the structure of articles suggests that its best to keep the squadrons separate, even though the 491st Fighter-Bomber Squadron is the least notable. Klbrain (talk) 05:22, 12 September 2021 (UTC)
