This league was not founded in 1995
editThe facts:
- The American Professional Soccer League was a division 2 league that operated from 1990–1996. After the 1994 season, it was renamed to the "A-League". It had 7 teams in its final season (1996).
- In 1996, USISL (now USL) created the Select League which was also a division 2 league. It had 21 teams during its only season.
- In 1997, the leagues "merged" to form the "USISL A-League" (division 2).[1][2] The 24 team league took 6 teams from the old A-League and the rest from USISL leagues.
Although the new league took the name of the old APSL, some sources consider the A-League to have been absorbed by the USISL Select League.[3] After all, the combined league continued to be operated by USISL, the SL commissioner became the combined league commissioner, and a majority of the leagues clubs came from USISL.
So clearly the old A-League's 1995 and 1996 seasons do not belong in this article but I think the 1996 USISL Select League season does. Does anyone have thoughts on this? BLAIXX 14:17, 6 November 2022 (UTC)
- Also it's pretty clear that the USL A-League was simply renamed to the USL First Division in 2005.[4] These two articles should be combined as well. The USL Second Division article does it right and has a single page across all renamings. BLAIXX 19:37, 6 November 2022 (UTC)
- @Blaixx: I agree that this article should probably be merged with USL First Division. Also, I noticed there is no page covering the outdoor league held by the now-USL from 1989 to 1994, would this be worth it's own article? S.A. Julio (talk) 01:45, 28 April 2023 (UTC)
