DisamAssist
edit@Flemmish Nietzsche: With the current page setup, when the redirect is active, all pages that already link here clog up the DisamAssist queue to fix the links. The thought was that the redirect could easily be restored when the pages have been linked. The tool is really intended to be used after conducting the move, though. I was really just trying to hijack it to speed things up, but I'll leave it up to BilledMammal. -2pou (talk) 22:07, 3 July 2024 (UTC)
- Wasn't that only when you changed the ABC News page to a disambig page a few hours ago before it got reverted? If the target is not a disambig page, I fail to see how DisamAssist would have a problem with a simple redirect. I think it's best to just leave both this page and the ABC News page be for now until this 11,000 link (now down to ~5,000) link mess can be completed. - @Flemmish Nietzsche, The tool still works from the older permalink of the disambiguated page. Likewise, if you use the tool from ABC News (disambiguation) to fix links to the primary topic, which is still viable, all pages that link to ABC News (United States) show up in the queue of links to be fixed. For example: Working from ABC News (disambiguation), run DisamAssist to "Disambiguate links to primary topic", and the first page that shows up now is
In Ron Paul 2008 presidential campaign:
...|author= Wolf, Z. Byron |work=[[ABC News (United States)|ABC News]]}}</ref>
...Basically the tool thinks that anything linking to ABC News either directly or via a redirect (the same would be true for ABC News United States) requires fixing. Anyway, I'm leaving it, but just wanted to explain the workflow since you said you fail to see how it has a problem. Like I said, I was hijacking the tool in a way it wasn't really intended to be used. -2pou (talk) 22:29, 3 July 2024 (UTC)
- I see, that is somewhat weird, and I admit I haven't myself actually used DisamAssist much before. Hopefully you can just leave it alone and BilledMammal's bot will hopefully finish in the next few hours and resolve this issue, though it is taking its time fixing all those links. @BilledMammal is your bot having trouble with the {{nobots}} template I added or is that you manually reverting the edits? Your bot seems adamant on changing the link here, and the template didn't seem to have done much. Flemmish Nietzsche (talk) 22:46, 3 July 2024 (UTC)
- Having trouble with the nobots template. It wasn't designed for such large scale change; I'll go implement that functionality now. BilledMammal (talk) 22:56, 3 July 2024 (UTC)
- Fixed now. BilledMammal (talk) 00:44, 4 July 2024 (UTC)
