Infobox

edit

The calibre should be mentioned in the infobox as well, not only in the running text. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tarendas (talkcontribs) 23:54, 11 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Source

This appears to be a self-published source. Further, the webpage cited uses Wikipedia as a source. For those reasons it's probably not a suitable source. Rezin (talk) 01:40, 29 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

British or American English.

edit

Even the very first paragraph uses both British and American English in the same sentence, what is this article supposed to be written in? Jurryaany (talk) 17:03, 8 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

I think the rule at WP:ENGVAR is that, for topics which aren't inherently American or British/Commonwealth, we go with whatever the first editors used. The earliest edit I can find with a difference, coincidentally made by the editor who wrote the first version of the article, is here [1] and uses American English. Hope that helps. (There's a whole other dispute about 'caliber' and 'calibre' which transcends the usual ENGVAR issues.) Rezin (talk) 22:08, 8 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to one external link on AKM. Please take a moment to review my edit. You may add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it, if I keep adding bad data, but formatting bugs should be reported instead. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether, but should be used as a last resort. I made the following changes:

History section?

edit

Would appreciate adding a history section to the article, so it could have the same format as the other famous Kalashnikov articles(AK-47 and AK-74) and describe the origins and the design process of the AKM.

Sources on User section

edit

@ROG5728:, I see that you added several from the Janes Infantry Weapons source (Jones) back in 2010. Do you still have that source? Would you check to see that the source is still correctly applied to user entries here? Along the way, people have tried to randomly throw refs on users when it wasn't listed in the source. This recent edit did exactly that and I don't believe that user has the source. Burundi, Burkina Faso and Lebanon are examples of those that got false refs added.

If we could get a definitive list of all entries listed in Jones that would help us revert the ones that don't belong.

purpose of rate reducer ("замедлитель срабатывания курка")

edit

While it's common knowledge that rate of fire reduction is a secondary side effect of "rate reducer" device in the AKM, I've seen a lot of people claim it's primary purpose is an out of battery safety. I believed that until I saw this video, specifically part 1:20. The AK bolt carrier already has an out of battery safety in the form of a tail that prevents premature hammer strikes. The guy who made the video also has a web site, which coincidentally is linked at the bottom of this Wikipedia page, and it mentions a former East German armorer told him the device combats bolt bounce. This got me thinking. I began reading Russian documents via google translate (not the best but helps you get the gist of the page); all of them mentions it as being for accuracy improvement by allowing the bolt to settle, i.e. bolt bounce. Here's a few good reads:

It should be noted that the last two mention device was borrowed from the TKB-517. Even this Russian Wikipedia page mentions the same. An article on The Firearms Blog also mentions accuracy was an issue with the original AK prototype and some engineers experimented to fix it. The intriguingly created somewhat of a precursor to the AKM with a swelled/grooved forearm and muzzle brake (a be it a different kind) but also converted it to an open bolt to combat "the bolt carrier group violently slamming into the rifle when closing the action", a different solution to what sounds like the same problem. Why the AK didn't incorporate the fixes mentioned in TFB article sooner in unknown. The AK in the article was a Type 1 with stamped receiver, perhaps the more rigid milled receiver on the Type 2 partially solved the issue only for it to be reintroduced on the AKM, though this doesn't explain why the Chinese where reluctant to implement it on their stamped Type 56. Not saying the page should be changed to reflect this immediately but I do think some research needs to be done.

P.S. slightly related, the Wikipedia article for the TKB-517 mentions it's more reliable then the AK, but Russian either make no mention of reliability or call it less reliable, citing an "immature" design but not explaining what exactly the reliability problem is. --2600:1700:ADF0:6390:805:7957:76CD:A38A (talk) 00:58, 8 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Dangling ref

edit

I have located a dangling ref and hidden it. This has been done because we have a reference pointing to a source that is not recorded in the article. Please feel free to contact me if you need assistance fixing this. - Aussie Article Writer (talk)

Sweden seriously?

edit

Why the heck does the "Users list" mentions Sweden as a user, Sweden definitely doesn't use Kalashnikovs. It's obvious BS right there. ColorfulSmoke (talk) 07:07, 24 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Chile should not be included in the list of users.

edit

The AKM is not and has never been in service in the Chilean Armed Forces. 2800:150:14A:5A5:91C:45B8:8703:F9CE (talk) 16:37, 9 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
