aMatikulu etymology
editI grew up on a farm outside of Amatikulu, speaking Zulu and the understood origin of the name was always from the Zulu "amathe" meaning "spit" or "saliva" and of course "kulu" meaning big / large, with the understanding that the Zulu name the river / place by its tendency to flood occaisionally, ie as in like a "large spit" occaisionally from the mouth.
The root word for "water" in Zulu is of course "amanzi" which is significantly different.
Its a little sad the actual the current explanation on the wiki seems to lose quite a lot of the character of the original name. Might be nice to change it to reflect the above? Trijb007 (talk) 19:45, 12 July 2023 (UTC)
