Source gathering

edit

This album comes out soon but has gone into a slow on editing. So I'm suggesting that this section be used for any source gathering so editors know what to add. For instance:

  1. http://www.revolvermag.com/news/enter-shikari-premiere-gandhi-mate-gandhi.html - general source on the writting, recording and concept of Gandhi Mate, Gandhi.
  2. http://www.nme.com/blog/index.php?blog=149&title=first_listen_enter_shikari_a_flash_flood&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1 - NME first listen
Both sources talk about spoken work being added in prominantly on certain tracks.
  1. http://underthegunreview.net/2011/10/12/enter-shikari-announce-new-album-uk-tour/ - Would be a bit helpful for the talking about promotion.

Use of leak information

edit

Something that has been argued on other wiki pages, according to WP:LEAK there has to be a significant reaction from the band or record label before it passes notability of being mentioned. If any editors find a source of either reacting use it, for now I'm removing it. Jonjonjohny (talk) 22:57, 11 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Genre

edit

I felt it was a far better idea to do this in the talk page rather than kick start a futile edit war, but I feel the genre's currently there are not representative. When I first wrote this article I put "Post-hardcore, drum and bass, dubstep, alternative metal" in the info box as the main three were and are primarily sourced in the composition section (Alt metal is cited in a interview I never put in the article). Now there is "Post-hardcore, alternative metal, electronicore, alternative rock, rap rock". Four out of five of those genres are unsourced. Really I feel it should be restored to something similar to what I originally put as it represents the albums broadness. I hope there are those who come to discuss. I can see on the article history that you have been defending the genres for at least three years. I agree that hashing out the genres of the album would be best conducted here on the talk page. One point that I want to make is that the album genre must satisfy WP:V, that is, it must be a genre that is published as a description of the album. An album's genre parameter should not be filled automatically by genres that can be found in the songs, or by the band's genre. Rather, the album genre should actually be the genre of the album as a whole. Let's look at the sources and what they say:
  • James McMahon, ed. (January 14, 2012). "In the studio special - Rolo Tomassi". Kerrang! (1397). Bauer Media Group: page07. ISSN 0262-6624. Follwing on from their two previous albums - 2007's Take To The Skies and 2009's Common Dreads - A Flash Flood Of Colour is a masterclass in innovation and genre-defiance as it blends dubstep, old school drum 'n' bass and very British rap with metal, post-hardcore and, in a new step for the band, moments of rare beauty and tenderness. {{cite journal}}: |pages= has extra text (help)
  • Tom Goodwyn (12 September 2011). "Enter Shikari, 'A Flash Flood of Colour' – First Listen". New Musical Express. (IPC Media). Retrieved 5 March 2012. It's a mark of Shikari's confidence in what they do that they felt comfortable enough to add even more musical genres into their already overflowing melting pot of influences. (This review concentrates mostly on individual songs and does not give a genre to the album as a whole.
  • Enter Shikari to hunt down Dallas, News Register. "ES’s songs usually contain at least two or three different genres within each track. Sometimes you’ll hear some driving punk rock mixed with dubstep and a hint of metal. Then they’ll switch it up, and present a ballad with techno roots underlying the track right at the heart of the song... Although ES’s music may incorporate a multitude of genres, their message and lyrical content are constant." (This review does not assign an overall genre to the album.)
  • Ryan Cooper (17 January 2012). "Enter Shikari – A Flash Flood of Colour I don't know dubstep, but I know I like this..." About.com. Retrieved 1 February 2012. "Their third release, A Flash Flood Of Color finds the band continuing to expand musical and political boundaries, merging sounds that I know very well (post-hardcore and industrial) with the sounds that I'm not familiar with." Cooper is saying that the album is post-hardcore and industrial, plus more. Cooper then discusses the individual songs.
  • Enter Shikari-A Flash Flood Of Colour, by Blakester on Rockhaq.com. "This album was a new interesting feature by Enter Shikari with their new amazing sound, it involved a genre of music called dubstep along with drum and bass, postcore, alternative metal and rock."
  • John Calvert (9 January 2012). "Album Review: Enter Shikari A Flash Flood of Colour". Drowned In Sound. Retrieved 25 August 2014. Calvert calls the album "sports-metal", supposedly some kind of low point for rock music fused with urban influence. Calvert uses "2011" to stand in for the name of this album: "Forward rewind to 2011 and it's all Nero-grade dubstep, amateurish drum'n'bass and mid-twenties pot bellies." He's saying the album is dubstep and drum'n'bass. Binksternet (talk) 16:41, 25 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
Comment: I've been defending it so that when I promote the album to GA it's genres are the most representative of sources and least controversial. Also sometimes when left unchallenged the genres get changed a lot. Jonjonjohny (talk) 17:00, 25 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
Defending the genres is commendable. Binksternet (talk) 17:55, 25 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
Although this discussion is obviously still open I have reverted the genres to their original state due to the lack of response. Jonjonjohny (talk) 17:54, 3 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

GA review – see WP:WIAGA for criteria

  1. Is it reasonably well written?
    A. Prose is "clear and concise", without copyvios, or spelling and grammar errors:

a. #:: No copyvios detected, only a Wikipedia mirror.--3family6 (Talk to me | See what I have done) 01:59, 20 January 2015 (UTC) b. #:: "Interviews have revealed lyricist, composer and singer Rou Reynolds' political views.[4]" - Which are what?--3family6 (Talk to me | See what I have done) 02:23, 20 January 2015 (UTC) c. #:: "there is now 'ongoing Orwellian overseas conflicts, riots in England's major cities, endless austerity programmes the end date of which stretch years into the distance'.[5]" - Shouldn't this be "there are now?" If this is merely a difference between British and American English, then ignore this comment.--3family6 (Talk to me | See what I have done) 02:23, 20 January 2015 (UTC) d. #:: The "rap" link in the introductory sentence in "Styles and themes" should link to hip hop music.--3family6 (Talk to me | See what I have done) 02:23, 20 January 2015 (UTC) e. #:: "This is often called as electronicore." - What is? Blending other styles with post-hardcore and metal, or blending electronic music styles with metal and post-hardcore?--3family6 (Talk to me | See what I have done) 02:23, 20 January 2015 (UTC) f. #:: "On 12 February 2012 they played a low-key..." - try a less colloquial term, such as "subdued," instead of "low-key."--3family6 (Talk to me | See what I have done) 02:23, 20 January 2015 (UTC) g. #:: "Iain Moffat of The Fly said about the album, 'Disenchantment should always be this spellbinding.'[29]" - perhaps re-write as "Iain Moffat of The Fly said of the album that 'Disenchantment should always be this spellbinding.'[29]"--3family6 (Talk to me | See what I have done) 02:23, 20 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

  1. B. MoS compliance for lead, layout, words to watch, fiction, and lists:
"Tracks" should be made a sub-section of "Styles and themes," as it discusses the styles and lyrics of individual tracks.--3family6 (Talk to me | See what I have done) 02:23, 20 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
  2. Is it factually accurate and verifiable?
    A. Has an appropriate reference section:
Several citations are just bare urls.--3family6 (Talk to me | See what I have done) 02:42, 20 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

    C. No original research:
    All content is verifiable.
  3. Is it broad in its coverage?

Non-free content is used appropriately, with appropriate fair-use rationales.--3family6 (Talk to me | See what I have done) 01:59, 20 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
    B. Images are provided if possible and are relevant to the topic, and have suitable captions:
Album covers are indispensable to the subject, concert photo is relevant. Captions are suitable.--3family6 (Talk to me | See what I have done) 01:59, 20 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
