Untitled

i reverted the (nicely done) list of pictures with the seemingly well informed descriptions. unavoidable since they were lifted wholesale from a website.

while researching a german version i found that while the text on [1] is well written, the content is dubious if not outright invention. especially the content for plate 2. is complete rubbish (it's not händel but Niccola Porpora, the director of the king's theatre on haymarket at the time, the list behind him is one of presents to farinelli, etc. no great loss, all said. --Snottily 02:09, 16 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

I was sad to see the content go, but understand your reasons. It would be nice to have a companion to A Harlot's Progress. Can you translate your German version (very nice, by the way) into English, by any chance, or would you be interested in collaborating on one? I usually start with a machine translation, but that often produces odd results! -- ALoan (Talk) 02:17, 16 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Orientation of "Bedlam"

edit

I note that plate 8 shows the window on the right, whilst I have seen other versions with the window on the left. Is the version used on this page the correct way around? Note that this is a genuine question rather than an assertion that it isn't! DI Ramekin

You may have seen copies of the engravings, which are reversed compared to the original paintings. We have copies, so should probably add them too. -- ALoan (Talk) 12:09, 17 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Ah, that would explain it. Thanks for clearing that up.DI Ramekin

Rather than mourning, it looks as though one servant (or her mother?) is pointing out the pregnancy of the other to Tom Rakewell. He seems to be offering her compensation for the fact.

There's a small engraving of the name Charming Betty Careless on the handrail of the stairs in the last plate.

Depictions vs. Paintings

edit

Maybe I'm missing something, but this appears to be pure duplication. Will likely remove "Paintings" unless somebody lets me know why we need the duplication. Smallbones(smalltalk) 04:58, 24 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
