An editor insists a "sic" is needed for "Graylock" as used by Hawthorne (rather than "Greylock"). The variant is and has been common in the US for a long time, is found in well over a hundred books, is found in news articles, postcards sold at the mountain, etc. I consider that "sic" is used for errors and incorrect spellings - not for spelling variants common to the area. Ought "sic" be used for a common spelling variant in the United States? Collect (talk) 17:26, 1 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
