Hafez Abdel el-Wahab

edit

Hafez Abdel el-Wahab, from whom Abdel Halim Hafez took the name Hafez for his stage name, was listed on a website that I found on the topic. However, Hafez Abdel el-Wahab seems incorrect -- should it be Hafez Abd el-Wahab? If anyone has any information on "Hafez Abdel el-Wahab", that would be great.

lexicorient.com cites the name as Hafez Abdel Wahab (which sounds more correct); —The preceding unsigned comment was added by AWN2 (talkcontribs).
The correct name is Abd El Halim Shabana عبد الحليم شبانة but he is famous as Abd El Halim Hafez. --Meno25 01:59, 27 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

How much he's one of the four "greats" has to be written in this article? This article sounds like any groupie would write. It needs complete rewriting. Sabertooth 14:00, 15 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

I agree .. they say it so many times that he is one of the four greats . Halim actually should be in a level on byhimself higher than the others . —Preceding unsigned comment added by Isammazl (talkcontribs) 01:05, 16 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Why is Abdelhalim classed under converts to Christianity?

edit

He isn't! I am removing him from the list and removing the link from the article.--Karkaron 20:58, 27 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Please someone write in Halim wikipedia how much he consistently gave to people -money,food ect.. and someone write his friendship to Nasser . —Preceding unsigned comment added by Isammazl (talkcontribs) 06:58, 19 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Fansite tag August 12, 2010 - article is unencyclopedic at this time

edit

I have added a fansite tag due to the many violations of WP:PEACOCK added to this article. On a fundamental level this article is unencyclopedic at present. Jusdafax 04:57, 13 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

  • Nearly six months later, I do not see a lot of improvements here. I do see the fansite tag has been removed, and I will replace it, as the article needs numerous citations to back up the claims in the lede and the opening sections. Jusdafax 23:36, 22 January 2011 (UTC) Update: I have made a start on this article by deleting some of the violations I mentioned and adding cite tags, but there is a lot of work needed. For one thing, many of the references either do not appear to actually refer to the claims in the article. For another, at least one is to a dead link and several appear to be blogs. Please refer to WP:RS before adding citations, thanks. Jusdafax 00:48, 23 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Clean up

edit

I tried to make the article more encyclopedic. Lots of references did not support the cited facts so I removed them. Removed Arabic spelling of song titles as this is an English language wiki. Improved some reference formats.Wkharrisjr (talk) 20:36, 11 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Most of my changes were reverted. The article still reads too much like a fan page with many adulatory adjectives. Additionally, many of the cited sources are blogs or do not even support the cited statements. Any better secondary sources? Wkharrisjr (talk) 20:26, 18 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Proper Name

edit

What is the proper name to refer to the subject of the article. For western names, the Wikipedia practice is to give the full name in the lede and then refer to the family name through out the rest of the article. For example: "George Washington, born... Washington was the first president of the United States..." USe of the first name is avoided as it lends a non-neutral, familiar tone to the article.

For Arabic names, what is the proper procedure: do we refer to Abdel, Abdel Halim, Halim or do we use his more familiar stage name Hafez? Wkharrisjr (talk) 14:14, 19 July 2011 (UTC)

I think you should start each sentence with Halim not Hafez, That is how most people use it. Also please do not erase most statements there. You can erase the statements that do not make sense.. Thank you ..

But is that the proper academic usage. Elvis Presley, a comparable figure to Abdel Halim Hafez, is popularly referred to as "Elvis", but an academic article would refer to him as "Presley". Wkharrisjr (talk) 19:27, 19 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Did anyone have the problem where when they went to the edit page and all the words are erased . Please if you have this problem say it now.under this message. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Guy5656 (talkcontribs) 17:56, 19 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

The cited article by El-Seket referred to him as "Hafez". Based on this precedent, I recommend that this article follow the same format. Wkharrisjr (talk) 20:50, 21 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Reaction to death

edit

I removed the sentences about reaction to Hafez's death as the sources were 1) from blogs or forums and 2)in Arabic. Published sources like newspapers or magazines are better sources and since this is the English-language version of Wikipedia, it is preferable that sources are in English also. Wkharrisjr (talk) 00:06, 23 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Is this a fan page?

edit

Too many non-scholarly and emotional phrases are being reverted to the article. Is this a fan page or a scholarly article about Hafez? Additionally do no use external links in the main body of the article; instead use Cite error: There are <ref> tags on this page without content in them (see the help page). referencing to cite sources for the article. If you do not know how to use the referencing tools, check out the appropriate Wikipedia articles and resources (some are listed at the bottom of the editing page. Finally, avoid blogs, fan pages, and the like for sources. Try to stick to reputable and notable sources.

Right now the article reads more like a fan page which in turn makes Hafez appear to the outside reader as a minor, inconsequential figure. If you wnat him to be taken seriously, the article must be upgraded to a more scholarly manner.Wkharrisjr (talk) 18:38, 25 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Translation in song title

edit

Shouldn't the translation for Nebtedi Minen el Hekaya read: "where should we start the story (where should we start telling the story), not ("If we were to tell the story") which would translate to Lou Kunna han nehki el hekaya... thoughts from more native speakers please, it seems it was translated either by a fellow Egyptian with poor English or by a non-Egyptian. On a side note in the Egyptian form of Arabic story = kissa, and Hekaya = situation however in English that will not translate well. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.207.13.178 (talk) 01:59, 12 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Still unencyclopedic

edit

I return this article and see that many of the issues I have brought up here remain. The very first ref I checked goes to the Imdb (Internet movie data base) which is not a reliable source. Please refer to WP:RS to get a better idea of what is needed here. At some point soon this article will have to be fixed. Jusdafax 19:01, 13 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
