Reports of his death
editI removed a passage that criticized the wikipedia for reporting Abdullah Mehsud's death. There have been reports of his deatch.
Mark Twain responded to reports of his' death by saying: "Reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated.."
Rather than a meta comment on the wikipedia's accuracy what we need is are references to authoritative, verifiable sources.

rm dead and redundant links -- see talk
editLinks to yahoo news express very quickly. When the link doesn't have the date, title, author it is impossible to track down.
I didn't know this for my first three years on the wikipedia. Removing references that linked to articles that go offline is counter to policy, provided the reference still give enough info to reach the paper copy.

not sufficiently documented
editSome sources assert Abdullah Mehsud and Baitullah Mehsud are brothers. Most sources merely describe them as colleagues, or clansmen. This was already addressed in the section: I specifically added a section to the article that referenced both sides of this claim. We don't need to have the claim repeated elsewhere in the article -- as if it were an established fact.
So I excised a recent edit that makes this assertion.

Abdullah Mehsud is Pakistani not Afghanistani
editHe was born in the North-West Frontier Province of Pakistan, not in Afghanistan. The categories should be fixed accordingly.
Guantanamo detention needs better support
editThe source for the claim that Mehsud was held at Guantanamo is an article from the Long War Journal reporting Mehsud's death. The Long War Journal article does not indicate how the author reached the conclusion that Mehsud was held at Guantanamo.
In an article at the Huffington Post (URL: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/h-candace-gorman-/return-to-the-battlefield_b_43344.html), Candace Gorman indicates that she was unable to verify that Mehsud was at Guantanamo:
Abdullah Mehsud was supposedly released from GTMO in 2004 but Mehsud' name does not appear on the official lists of Guantánamo detainees, nor does his alias 'Noor Alam.' It seems the only person suggesting that Mehsud was at Guantánamo was Mehsud himself. Mehsud has reportedly bragged about getting released from Guantánamo but it seems more likely that he was never there.
I don't think it is appropriate to cite the Long War Journal article to support the claim that Mehsud was held at Guantanamo. The assertion is controversial, so it should be supported by citing an article that examines the evidence and concludes that Mehsud was held at Guantanamo. An article, like the Long War Journal article, which simply asserts that Muhsud was held at Guantanamo without providing any evidence to support the claim, is insufficient.

questionable edit...
editSomeone included the assertion that Baitullah Mehsud was Abdullah Mehsud's brother as if it were an established fact. But don't tens of thousands of men in this tribe share this surname. Various other sources merely assert they are associates, or clansmen. I think this assertion should be clarified, so readers know it is just one conclusion. Geo Swan (talk) 06:51, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
to do
editUS spokesmen claimed they killed Mehsud in 2005 and at least one other occasion before his eventual death. This information has been removed from the article. I don't know why -- but I think it was a big mistake. Geo Swan (talk) 19:56, 23 May 2009 (UTC)
relationship with Baitullah Mehsud
editThis article is supposed to be about Abdullah Mehsud, not Baitullah Mehsud. So I removed some of the extra references to Baitullah. References to him are only appropriate with reference to his relationship with Abdullah. Geo Swan (talk) 19:56, 23 May 2009 (UTC)
Wrong birthplace info
editHow could he be born in Helmand if the article states he was from waziristan? I am changing this. Akmal94 (talk) 22:20, 8 August 2015 (UTC)
