France

AFAIK the Matelot de Seconde Classe would be the ordinary seaman and the Able Seaman would be the Matelot de première classe but I'm absolutely not sure. Chris CII 10:42, 14 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

"Able-bodied"

edit

I've removed the reference to "AB" standing for "able-bodied", as this is incorrect. See Able Seaman (occupation)#Able-bodied Seaman. Should we duplicate the section from the civilian article here? Tevildo (talk) 16:54, 8 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

The result of the move request was: not moved as there is consensus for the current titles. A cursory glance at the other discussions mentioned here also suggests that there has generally either been consensus for the all capital form or no consensus in the previous discussion as well Dpmuk (talk) 11:25, 6 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Able Seaman (rank)Able seaman (rank) — Most style guides, including Wikipedia's, say that military ranks are capitalized only when they precede a person's name, or are used as a substitute for a particular person's name. When a rank is discussed in general, it is lower case. Indefatigable (talk) 23:40, 29 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
