It is completely redundant to have an article titled Abraham Lincoln 1861 presidential inauguration, and have the content in a separate article. 199.125.109.126 (talk) 17:32, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
- I completely agree. This article, Lincoln's first inaugural address should be the main article and Abraham Lincoln 1861 presidential inauguration should simply be a redirect page. Tom (North Shoreman) (talk) 17:52, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

- Um, no. This article should be the redirect and the other one should be the main page. Is an inauguration simply an address? — Rickyrab | Talk 19:08, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
- This article was created in April, almost 150 years after the event, and apparently the most notable portion of the festivities was the speech itself. There is no point in trying to change history just because there was another inauguration recently that attracted a flurry of activity. Wait until the dust settles over the naming of the 2009 inauguration article before letting it cloud any other articles. 199.125.109.126 (talk) 19:15, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

Point 3 in the summary is INCORRECT. Lincoln clearly was willing to wage war to collect what he knew to be intolerable tariffs. "After stating that he assumed the power to "possess the property and places belonging to the Government," he said he was also obligated "to collect the duties and imposts; but beyond what may be necessary for these objects, there will be no invasion, no using force against or among the people anywhere." http://www.lewrockwell.com/dilorenzo/dilorenzo89.html 71.33.52.237 (talk) 19:38, 18 October 2009 (UTC)Thomas Watts
Text of entire speech
editI have reverted the insertion of the entire speech. It is not common practice that I can see to include such a long quote into the middle of an article, especially since there is an available wikisource that includes the entire text. A better way to handle the inclusion of some of the most appropriate text can be seen at Cooper Union speech -- the issue of including the entire text of the speech is also addressed on that article's discussion page. Vandalism of Text Box
editSomeone has vandalized the "Series of Articles on Lincoln" text box. Could someone else please restore it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.28.117.237 (talk) 20:04, 7 November 2020 (UTC)
