editAlthough widely popularised as being the first to have a CENTRAL achievement system, x-box 360 was not the first to implement achievements. several games already had achievements years before the x-box 360 existed. several sentences try to imply otherwise.88.225.222.123 (talk) 16:36, 7 June 2011 (UTC)
Citation needed. On another note, this article focuses far too much on what gamers think achievements are for compared to how achievements are used by developers, publishers and marketing. Sure, they give players some stuff to do and some motivation, this however is only a secondary bonus of their existence. The reality is that they give feedback to the devs about game statistics. When there's an achievement for doing a particular mission they get to know exactly how many people got that far in the game based on how many of that achievement is given out compared to earlier missions in the game, etc. It provides valuable data on what's good about a game and what's not.86.180.78.57 (talk) 12:51, 3 January 2013 (UTC)
- This is a good point. Xeinok (talk) 00:46, 4 June 2016 (UTC)
Some mention of third party tools and leaderboards for achievements would be good. Sites such as TrueAchievements, etc. utilizing the APIs of the major platforms. Xeinok (talk) 00:46, 4 June 2016 (UTC)
I'm too lazy to figure out how to edit a Wikipedia page, sorry, but Astro Blaster (1981) is a great candidate for a single-game achievement system. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astro_Blaster "The player is rewarded for completing each of 25 undisclosed tasks or "secret bonuses", such as shooting all enemies in a specific order or shooting all enemies without missing.[3]" — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2406:E003:E24:2101:1931:A0A2:9D58:7500 (talk) 17:20, 22 December 2020 (UTC)

Achievement (video games) → Video game achievement – It's generally preferable to use natural disambiguation than to use parenthetical dismabiguation, per WP:NCDAB. Adding "video game" to the front of the word "achievement" seems to be a pretty common way that people specify what type of achievement they're discussing. Here are some reliable sources using the term "video game achievement": Vice, Bleacher Report. IagoQnsi (talk) 22:15, 30 November 2020 (UTC) —Relisting. BD2412 T 23:53, 15 December 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose The majority of reliable sources call them "achievements", not "video game achievements". The title must follow the WP:RS.ZXCVBNM (TALK) 10:16, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Zxcvbnm: Per WP:NCDAB, the article title need not be the most common term, as long as it is a common term. "Achievement" is definitely more common, but "video game achievement" is common enough, and is much cleaner. --IagoQnsi (talk) 03:18, 4 December 2020 (UTC)
- Exactly. The proposed name is perfectly acceptable. Andrewa (talk) 12:28, 10 December 2020 (UTC)

- Oppose this is not about "video game achievements" it is about in-game video game achievements -- a "video game achievement" could be a Guinness World Record in videogaming. -- 67.70.26.89 (talk) 21:43, 9 December 2020 (UTC)
- Guinness World Records has a Gamers' Edition, which clearly are video game achievements, though they are not in-game ones. As are video game awards, achievements recognized in the video game industry. editMany games provide in-game reward objects for reaching achievements; shouldn't there be a section for this, or at least be included in a one?
Here are some examples from Reddit. 66.220.247.82 (talk) 16:30, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
Chronology of Activision patches
editHello,
In the part about the iron-on patches on Activision games, it is stated that we can trace this system back to 1982 and that it's over by the end of 1983.
But here, we have a list of the 34 games that had patches https://www.atariage.com/2600/archives/activision_patches.html
And when I look at the Wikipedia list of Atari 2600 games, we can see that these 34 games were released from 1980 to 1984. Or is there something I'm missing?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Atari_2600_games
Of course, it's possible that the eligible games date from 1980 to 1984 but the patch-rewarding system only started in 1982.
