move
editWhat is the source for the name that is used now? After carefully evaluating the sources in the article and multiple secondary sources from search results. I plan to move the article to Adel Ben Mabrouk. Any objection? IQinn (talk) 00:56, 30 December 2009 (UTC)
- I see the need to move this article to a better name. I left an announcement on this talk page with the suggested name and left enough time for other editors.
- IMO that should be enough to perform the move now under established Wikipedia editing practice. Nevertheless another editor demanded that i provide him with a detailed explanation for each intended page move in advanced. I do not think that is necessary because there is time enough for other editors to check the suggested new name and to start an argument base discussion if she/he disagrees.
- Here are a few sources and arguments that could help other editors to form their opinion over the suggested move. These sources are also easily accessible by putting the new name into the search engine together with a few Guantanamo keywords or keywords related to the individuals live.
- The old name is IMO based on documents provided by OARDEC (The United States military body responsible for organising Combatant Status Review Tribunals (CSRT) at the Guantanamo Bay detention camps). As OARDEC has frequently given multiple different names or multiple different spelling versions for one prisoner, i doubt that OARDEC can be seen as a reliable source for the correct name or correct spelling of the name. Apart from the name the article is based on now they also provide us with different versions of the name on other documents.
- The new name Adel Ben Mabrouk i think is the better choice because it is based on reliable sources:
- Sources for the new name:
- and more...
- I strongly believe that the from me suggested new name Adel Ben Mabrouk is an improvement. And i think there is more than enough time and information for any other editor to form their own opinion. IQinn (talk) 00:29, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
- Perform the move. No objection after weeks. IQinn (talk) 13:05, 20 February 2010 (UTC)
explanation
editThere was a discussion, a few months ago, about the "identity" sections. In that discussion those participating agreed that it should not refer to the captive by their ID number. I thought we agreed that the section should remain, that it should be restored to point form -- so the differences in names could be more easily seen by readers, that the portion that had said "Captive Nnn was known as" should be renamed "He was known as".
Nevertheless, one of the other participants in that discussion seems to have forgotten the discussion, and recently removed the identity section from this article. I've restored it, after making the changes those participating in that discussion agreed to. Geo Swan (talk) 02:44, 21 February 2010 (UTC)
Major Reorganisation
edit- Removed information in the text where it was duplicated in the infobox.
- Removed duplication of phrases in single sections.
- Rearranged material for readability.
- Hopefully more neutral tone.
how many events?
editAdel Ben Mabrouk was not only a Guantanamo captive.
- He was transferred to Italy, where he was convicted, based on the testimony of a jailhouse informant.
- The judge eventually sentenced him to "time served", after denouncing the injustice of his eight years of extrajudicial detention in Guantanamo.
- Time magazine published an interview with him, after his release from Italian custody.
I believe the coverage of these other events establish he is not someone known for a "single event." Geo Swan (talk) 17:56, 4 October 2015 (UTC)
