Move?
edit- The following discussion is an archived discussion of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.
No consensus to move. Vegaswikian (talk) 20:56, 10 April 2011 (UTC) Adelaide Christmas Pageant → Credit Union Christmas Pageant —
- The current name is not the official name and is just a common way of referring to it. The website link on it's article page shows official name if you want to look AnimatedZebra (talk) 04:50, 3 April 2011 (UTC)
- Which name is more used? It is to be expected that people in colloquial usage drop the advertizing part of the 'official' name and replace it by the more informative name of the place where it happens. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 05:35, 3 April 2011 (UTC)
- Every year when it's televised, it's always shown on screen and referred to by the hosts as the "Credit Union Christmas Pageant". AnimatedZebra (talk) 07:07, 3 April 2011 (UTC)
- Oppose. WP:UCN. -- Nczempin (talk) 20:30, 3 April 2011 (UTC)
- Oppose, on the basis that "of a long list of names the page could have, that would be my last choice". Pdfpdf (talk) 02:46, 4 April 2011 (UTC)
- Perhaps I should be a little bit more objective!
- a) WP:UCN
- b) it's always shown on screen and referred to by the hosts as the "Credit Union Christmas Pageant". - Of course it is! The Credit Unions (about 6 of them) put large amounts of money into enabling the Pageant to happen. Without them, it probably would have died when it stopped being "John Martin's Christmas Pageant". It's only fair that their contribution be acknowledged, and they should be praised and thanked for keeping it alive, and in addition, for the thousands of hours of time they encourage their staff to contribute. But none of that has anything to do with either what the Pageant's name is, nor what the page should be titled.
- c) For some reason not explained, "Christmas pageant" redirected to Nativity play. I've just turned it into a dab page.
- d) Christmas Pageant is red - perhaps it, too, should be a dab page.
- e) Similar discussions have been had many times before on wikipedia. Examples: 1) Elizabeth Oval changes its sponsorship every 5 years or so, and every time it does there's "discussion" initiated by some enthisiast who wants to change the page name. Fortunately, sanity seems to prevail. (So far ... ) 2) Football Park 3) etc. (ad nauseum) OK, the Pageant doesn't change sponsorship every 5 minutes, but the principle's the same.
- f) The redirects "Credit Union Christmas Pageant" and "John Martin's Christmas Pageant" already address the problem of people looking for the Pageant by a specific name.
- Pdfpdf (talk) 02:46, 4 April 2011 (UTC)
- I get the common name thing for articles now. The "Adelaide Christmas Pageant" is indeed a better and more common name, better then what I wanted to change it to. So, should I oppose my own "Requested Move"? lol AnimatedZebra (talk) 07:33, 4 April 2011 (UTC)
- Lol! Indubidably. ;-) Pdfpdf (talk) 07:49, 4 April 2011 (UTC)
