Brian Strand's Fake "Crapsey Doublet"
editThe reference to the "doublet" in the Adelaide Crapsey article is the most egregious case of Wikipedia's inability to distinguish fact from Tlönic inventions passed off as fact. Well, here are the real facts:
- Fact: nowhere in any of Adelaide Crapsey's writings does she refer to any verse form of hers as a "Doublet" -- and I challenge anyone to find a single reference in her work where she does.
- Fact: the term "Doublet" and invented by "committed Christian" nut Brian Strand in 2005 in order to give his rather mediocre epigrams (modeled upon Crapsey's "On Seeing Wheather-Beaten Trees") an air of legitimacy by passing them off as "an English language form of haiku [invented by Crapsey] to complement her American cinquain" [1]. Its supposed "rules" were first posted on his blog [2] and later that year in an "article" on PoeWar.com without even a single reference.
Such fakery as the "Crapsey doublet" is inexcusable and the printing of it as "fact" in an article on a fairly well-known early 20th century poet makes Wikipedia look like it's run by a gaggle of credulous fools who will believe anything they are told.
