Help request: redirects

Please help! I am new to Wikipedia and I made a mistake when moving the page from my sandbox to the main page of Wikipedia. I needed to change the name of the original page (I made a grammar error), but didn't know that this will mean that readers will now be redirected. I thought the original page will just be updated.
Can you please help me to delete the previous page so that people are not redirected, but can just view the main page (new page) of Africa Open Institute for Music, Research, and Innovation? If it breaks some of the links I will relink them.
I will really appreciate your help with this!— Preceding unsigned comment added by LizabeLambrechts (talk • contribs) 08:37, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
- LizabeLambrechts, hi, I'm an administrator. I'm not sure I understand your request - what page do you want to be deleted? GeneralNotability (talk) 14:36, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
@GeneralNotability and GeneralNotability:
Thank you so much for getting back to me. After I posted the Africa Open Institute for Music, Research and Innovation onto the main site of wiki yesterday it showed a redirect message if one searched for the page on Google. I looked at it again today and it seems as if this main message has disappeared and you can now click directly on the page. It still has a notice of "Redirected from Africa Open Institute" on top - but I suppose this is because I used this search in order to see if anyone has written anything about the institute before and then used the red ink to make a new page? Is it possible to remove the "Redirected from Africa Open Institute" message on top of the page?
- LizabeLambrechts, that message will only show up if someone searches for "Africa Open Institute" - if someone searches for "Africa Open Institute for Music, Research, and Innovation" they won't see that message. That happens whenever someone follows a redirect - see, for example, how going to Google.com has a redirect message at the top but going to Google Search directly doesn't. The point is basically to tell people "yes, we know you searched for (X) and you're in the right place, our page for that is called (Y)." There's no harm or cost in having a redirect as long as it's a reasonable alternative name for the page. GeneralNotability (talk) 12:09, 26 August 2020 (UTC)
@GeneralNotability and GeneralNotability: Thank you very much for taking the time to explain this to me - I am very new at all of this! Your input has been very valuable, I really appreciate it! Hope you have a wonderful day
