Review within the Wikipedia Primary School project
editHi all. As anticipated, some weeks ago Simone Sala agreed to review this article within the scope of the project linked above. You can find his notes in the PDF I just uploaded to Commons. We'd like to thank Simone Sala for his work and for his helpful notes. We invite everybody to feel free to reuse the review to improve the article and/or to comment it here. Best, Anthere (talk) 19:32, 9 February 2016 (UTC)
To facilitate the editing process, I copied Simone Sala notes below.
Quality of the Summary
editIs the summary of the article a complete, thorough, and concise introduction to the topic? How do you think the summary could be improved? Which meaningful data are missing? Is there something that you find too much detailed for a general overview of the topic?
Summary is complete.
Could be improved by inserting media (pictures, photos) and more data on agricultural production, trade and marketing.
Some of the data (e.g. those from FAOSTAT) could be updated (existing ones reflect 2008, 2006, 2011 data).
The entry is at an appropriate level of detail for a general overview.
Structure and style of the article
editIs the article properly presenting the topic for a general public? Does the article provide a complete and easy-to-navigate structure? Which paragraph would you add, unify or split into different parts? Please provide a list of suggestions. Is the article well written and understandable at a high school level?
The article is adequately presenting the topic for a general public.
Structure is complete and easy to navigate.
Paragraph on land tenure, conflict could be added (by splitting the references in the introduction section).
Article is written clearly and understandable at a high school level.
Content
editIs the article comprehensive of major facts related to the topic? Is the article adequately placing the subject in context? What does it miss? Please provide a list of topics you think should be included in the article (suggestions must be related to bibliography). Do you find that some arguments are not meaningful or representative of the topic for a general public. What should be deleted? Please explain why.
The article may be expanded by including further information on the history of agriculture in South Africa. Furthermore, the following topic may be included:
- agricultural workforce (smallholders, family farmers)
- infrastructures (i.e. irrigation, logistics)
- agroindustry (i.e. trade).
International and local dimension
editIs the article neutral (it presents general and acknowledged views fairly and without bias)? Is the article representative of the international dimension and consolidated research about the topic? If applicable, does the article feature examples from all over the world (no localisms)? Please draft a list of what is missing with related references.
The article is mostly neutral, though the section on land conflicts would need to be expanded and updated to be considered fully neutral. The topic describes a local context, and as such has no reason to include examples from all over the world.
References (essential to allow the articles to be improved)
editIs the list of publications comprehensive and updated? Does it list the fundamental monographs and papers? Please provide primary/generic and secondary/original resources which need to be included and suggest the list of publications which should be removed.
Further references from UN FAO, IFAD, Government of South Africa, OECD could be included.
The section on land conflicts would need a separate section (not in the introduction) and further references [4; 10] from academic papers instead of grey literature (i.e. newspapers) are advised.
