Aguas Calientes (Spanish for "hot water" or "hot springs"), sometimes referred to as Machupicchu Town, is a town in Peru on the Urubamba (Vilcanota) River. It is the closest access point to the historical site of Machu Picchu, which is 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) away or about a 1.5 hours walk. There are many hotels and restaurants for tourists, as well as natural hot baths, which give the town its name. The baths were destroyed by floods several years ago, but have been rebuilt.

Photo does not show the Urubamba River
edit@User:JustEMV The last photo in the gallery is captioned as showing the Urubamba River flowing through the town. That is not the Urubamba River in the photo. It is the Aguas Calientes River. The Aguas Calientes River empties into the Urubamba River just a short distance beyond what's visible in that picture. The Urubamba River really flows alongside of the town, rather than through it. - @User:DavidWBrooks and @User:JustEMV The river in the photo is not the Alcamayo, either. See Angie's Inn, in the photo. I found it on Google Street Vies. The river is the Rio Aguas Calientes--yes, the same as the popular name for the town. The Aguas Calientes does flow into the Urubamba shortly beyond the view in the photo. The Alcamayo meets the Urubamba just a short distance (still in town) south of--i.e., upstream from--where this, the Aguas Calientes meets it.
