Medical career

edit

This article is missing key information on Dr. Tibi's notability as a physician. TewfikTalk 15:33, 18 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Nationality

edit

Although Dr. Tibi is an Arab whose parents were born in former Palestine, in order to sit in the Israeli Kenesset Dr. Tibi must be an Israeli citizen. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Oatmealstout (talkcontribs) 02:00, 28 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Controversial comments

edit

It appears that this article makes absolutely no mention about Tibi's constant use of colorful language and derrogatory comments against his opponents, which is definitely notable because every such comment makes it into the national Israeli media, as I was just reminded by Tibi's most recent diatribe. Other statements include saying that Avigdor Lieberman would be 'water pollution if drowned'. I'm not saying that this should be blown up out of proportion and take up the entire article, but the general issue should at least have its own section. -- Ynhockey (Talk) 17:24, 13 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Problems with sources

edit

Of the the statements I've removed [1] unsubstantiated rant from a very biased publication. Then [2][3] are an opinion column therefore not acceptable in a blp. Re "Support for terrorism" [4] cites an exchange of abuse between MKs, so not reliable & [5] has him working with the PLO, doesn't say he support terrorism, & cites another MK incorrectly claiming he's involved with Hamas. Please read the sources more carefully and abide by policy per WP:RS & WP:BLP. Thanx--Misarxist 09:45, 25 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Well done. This article is riddled with WP:BLP, WP:SYNTH and WP:NPOV violations. More work is needed. --Frederico1234 (talk) 17:24, 25 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
the article is absolutely biased and shows Tibi in a very negative way by using common Israeli right accusations as facts, from one side, and neglecting entirely his acknowledged parliamentary activity, from the other side. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kifah.halim (talkcontribs) 15:17, 7 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Removal of sourced material

edit

A user has removed sourced material from the article under the claim that there was "not enough context". I completely disagree with this claim, because the quote is a full sentence without missing parts, so even if Tibi clarified what he meant in some way, this does not mean that the sentence was taken out of context. I believe the quote should be restored, as it does not violate BLP as the user claimed. However, to be fair, I don't have access to the source. Can someone who has access to it bring the full text? —Ynhockey (Talk) 20:33, 26 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

The sentence as read could be interpreted as if Tibi thinks that it is a "despicable act" to sell ones home to a Jew, without qualification. That it most probably not what Tibi meant. Most probably he was talking about selling homes located on the West Bank to Jewish settlers. As I don't have access to the source, I could not add that context. Instead I removed it as it is BLP. --Frederico1234 (talk) 20:40, 26 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
What you just said amounts to original research. It is not for us to guess what he probably meant. However, I will not make any edits for now, until the actual source is found. —Ynhockey (Talk) 20:55, 26 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
If I had changed the sentence to something like "Regarding settlers in the West Bank, Tibi said..." then that would have been OR as I don't have access to the source. I did not. I simply removed it. --Frederico1234 (talk) 22:33, 26 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
The sentence appears to have been added in this edit by the WP:SPA (all three edits the editor ever made was to this article) User:Mariasson. The editor created the Controversies section and added a bunch of accusations, including from propaganda site http://www.eretzyisroel.org. --Frederico1234 (talk) 07:06, 27 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Edit of Biography section for clarity

edit

Sept. 17, 2014 I edited this section for clarity and flow. I have attempted to preserve exact meaning as found on that date, with these exceptions:

  • At the introductory, located Tayibe as in Israel and also Palestine.
  • At "Ahead of Israel's 2003 elections, several right-wing politicians..." changed to read "Ahead of Israel's 2003 elections, several politicians..." This was for neutral tone and because the party affiliations of these politicians appear in the sentence.
  • At the media surveys, changed "speaker" to "public speaker." This may be wrong if "Deputy Speaker" was intended. This sentence needs citation to the particular surveys it mentions.
  • At section end, added Mr. Tibi's current Knesset roles as given on the Knesset website.

The edits should make the section easier to read quickly. I did not edit any other sections.--Jessegalebaker (talk) 23:53, 17 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Name

edit

He's usually referred to as Ahmad Tibi or Ahmed Tibi in English media, and אחמד טיבי in Hebrew (/axmad tibi/) but according to the page his name in Arabic is أحمد الطيبي‎.

Shouldn't the article mention that his name would be more accurately rendered in Arabic as Ahmad al-Tibi?

The Hosni Mubarak article is a good example of this, showing the prononunciation of his name as /mæˈħæmmæd ˈħosni (ʔe)sˈsæjjed moˈbɑːɾɑk/, with the pronunciation of the sometimes-omitted Arabic definite article -ال in parentheses. —Moxfyre (ǝɹʎℲxoɯ | contrib) 23:48, 23 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Grandfathers and Briefcases

edit

Hello to all editors. I am a historian from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Looking through the entry on MK Tibi, I found some inaccurate details and corrected them. For example, Tibi's grandfather was born in Jaffa, not in Syria, and has no relatives in Damascus (at least not according to public knowledge). Also, I shortened the description on the incident in the hospital and updated according to recent events. Why were my edits deleted? I will be happy to open a conversation here. --Dannyorbach (talk) 07:55, 20 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Dannyorbach: Hi Danny, Welcome to Wikipedia. I think the place of birth was collateral damage of the briefcase incident. The problem is that neither the Jaffa version nor the Damascus version is supported by a source. The way to make your version stick is to cite it to a published source. (Knowing that it is true through your own research doesn't count unless you published it.) A newspaper article should be enough, and it could be in any language. Regarding the briefcase incident, the amount of detail to include is a matter of opinion. I also think that a brief summary is enough, but other people might not agree. If you feel strongly about this, make a case here and see how it goes. Zerotalk 09:56, 20 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Martyrdom is NOT synonymous with suicide bombing in Palestine and Israel

edit

The statement placed on to the end of the current final section of controversies is false. The editor has in this case directly kifted text from the sourced article which is the opinion of the author Lahav Harkov at the Jerusalem Post.

Wikipedia: ″While the word martyr in Arabic means to die for God's name, it has come to be associated with suicide bombers in the context of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict."

Jerusalem Post Source: "While the word martyr in Arabic means to die in the name of God, in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict it has come to be associated with suicide bombers and terrorists who are killed while attacking Israel."
