It may not have been notable when originally proposed, but it is certainly notable now as they are actually launching satellites and bring the network online. They are actually making space-based reception of aircraft ADS-B transmission possible, something the governments have been unable to do. While it is technically not very difficult, no one else is doing it and there should be information about it here.
