Trouble with the church

edit

This article needs something on the specific threats they're received from the Catholic Church in Ireland. I don't know why they've been singled out more than other satanic bands - maybe it's the suits, or the mistaken belief that their name is meant to be peurile? --MartinUK 10:37, 5 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Extremely Fast Drummer?

edit

Is this worthy of mention? I wouldn't consider the drumming featured in Akercocke's songs to be any faster than other death metal/black metal bands. --83.70.230.59 16:59, 23 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

David Gray hits upward of 330 BPM, which is quite rare in BM and DM, and although fairly normal in grindcore, Death Metal drummers normally top out at around 250BPM

"It is true that the band are nonetheless giving their all into making this new album as commendable as their previous output by continuing to push the boundaries of an otherwise stale genre" This sounds like a cheap shot at advertising, most likely done by the band...I am deleting it.

^ Just as well, that statement is incorrect. Unconscious 12:45, 12 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

And where the hell did you get these genres from? = ∫tc 5th Eye 16:41, 12 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
What would you like help about? Lmc169 16:42, 12 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

thanks, which genres are you talking about, i listen to their music alot and all of those genres are in there allthough jazz is for the most part a general influence felt throughout much of the music, as for classical see fortune my foe, on the goat of mendes album. cheeers Unregistered text offender 16:46, 12 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

You can't just add genres as you please. They have to be mentioned in the article and cited. = ∫tc 5th Eye 16:47, 12 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

so you're saying that i can add them as i like to the article but not to the info box, that doesn't isn't logical, whatsmore its very difficult to cite references when you have garnered the information from listening to a record or band inttently, what are you going to do, find an article written in music mag that says the same thing, i once read in an review of the pitchshifter album PSI that it had a funk influence or something along those lines, there wasn't one note of funk on the record, do you see what i mean? what about this if you want to add a genre then you need to get three votes in your favour with no more than one disagreement, that seems more fair. Unregistered text offender 17:02, 12 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

I know what you mean but it doesn't matter. Genres are not decided by public opinion on Wikipedia. Any genres must be cited from a source (review, magazine, website, etc.). If a review says a band is funk, you can add it if you want but you don't have to. Also, deciding facts by polling is unacceptable by policy.
As an example, I've been watching the Lamb of God article—there has been a lot of debate there as to their genre, and several people stated that they were not metalcore; however, someone managed to find 3 citations that said they were, and it has stayed there.
So, in short, you can call them jazz, or tribal, or what have you, so long as you can cite it. That's just the way it works. If Wikipedia is to be a reliable source, it has to get its info from other reliable, citable sources. = ∫tc 5th Eye 17:28, 12 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Genre is pretty much the most argued about thing on wikipedia, also, what about this, could it be possible to use the an album itself as a source, for instance, 'fortune my foe' from their 'goat of mendes' album is a cover version of a quite popular piece of what is generaly, loosely called classical music, its actually quite an interesting piece, its fabled, or generally believed to to have been written by henry the 8th Unregistered text offender 17:42, 12 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

So what you're saying is, you'd like to classify Akercocke as "classical" because they cover one "loosely" classical song? I don't think so. Especially since a) classical is nowhere near their general style, and b) they are not cited as classical. Have I made my point yet? = ∫tc 5th Eye 17:45, 12 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

When i put down other genres i meant other genres that there music goes through 'fortune my foe' is the most obvious example of this and by 'loosely' i mean't that classical is by its very nature a loose genre, rather than the music being a loose example of that genre Unregistered text offender 17:53, 12 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Regardless, putting down other genres that are not representable of the band as a whole can be deceiving. You won't want someone to see them listed as "classical" and think that their music is always that way, since it is clearly not. = ∫tc 5th Eye 18:11, 12 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Actually classical is a very broard church if you listen to a lot of the i don't know i suppose you'd call it neo clasical of the 60's its not entirely dissimilar to industrial or atleast early industrial, in any case i think that if you put it in other genres then i wouldn't imagine anyone would think that the music would be like that all the time if it was then it would be in main genres, sorry took so long to reply just been a bit busy. Unregistered text offender 16:05, 18 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

The problem with this system of citations is that just because a jorno said it doesn't make it true, an enormous ammout of utter trash gets written in the press, one could go onto the Emo page and say that its a suicide inducing cult and cite the daily mail or ABC news for your purposes. So? We as Wikipedians merely chronicle the works of others, rather than writing original research. = ∫tc 5th Eye 17:43, 18 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

What exactly is going on here? Odd. Abort-O-Matic 5000 (talk) 16:24, 13 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Looks like your standard band navbox to me; it's a pretty common thing for articles to have nowadays. Could use some expansion though. = ∫tc 5th Eye 21:14, 13 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Disregard, now that its actually Akercocke related. Someone had copy/pasted the template from another artist, and hadn't added anything.Abort-O-Matic 5000 (talk) 22:51, 13 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Oh, okay. That makes sense. = ∫tc 5th Eye 23:12, 13 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
