I knew Saito when he served in the Legion. Other than this basic fact and that he died of wounds incurred while serving in a security job in Iraq, I do not think that he has any particular claim to fame, nor that he deserves an article here in Wikipedia. 91.177.26.168 (talk) 14:12, 18 December 2007 (UTC) Chris

Disagree with non-notability; although he was neither the first kidnapped or killed, Japanese officials including Japan’s defense chief, Yoshinori Ono, were questioned in various international forums on verification of his identity, questions of his captivity, and what the Japanese government was doing/would do, including the possible complete withdrawal of 550-600 Japanese military personnel in Iraq; the military personnel were not withdrawn until just over a year later in July 2006, and non-military not completely until December 2008; this may not have been acknowledged as part of the official decision. Possibility of merging would likely be to Japanese Iraq Reconstruction and Support Group, where the date of captivity/death seems incorrect, with dead link reference. AS I remember, Aki died May 9, 2005 while guarding a convoy of trucks delivering medical supplies to the Iraqi Ministry of Health. I am 99% sure I saw video of his dead body (on the internet) within a day or two of his death and thought we had provided information to Coalition Forces to refute claims that he was being held hostage. I had lunch with him (at the Abu Ghraib Warehouse Distribution Center near Baghdad International Airport where we both worked) the day before he died and recall seeing him at breakfast and as he left with the convoy that day. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 159.142.219.141 (talk) 20:23, 26 January 2015 (UTC)
