Imam al Nawawi was a great scholar he would never stop studying until he fell asleep on his desk. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.139.201.230 (talk) 09:21, 26 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Influence on the Shafi'i school

edit

Although Imam Nawawi had great contributions to the hadith sciences, his most significant contribution is in the Shafi'i school. His positions were adopted by the scholars that followed him and became what is known as the reliable position in the Shafi'i school. This aspect is undermined in the article.

Creed

edit

I have added several sources that confirm al-Nawawi's creed is Ash'arism. Someone (here) asked for a statement from al-Nawawi's own words that confirm this.

Al-Nawawi said in his book Bustan al-'Arifin (The Gardens of the Gnostics):[1]

Bustan al-'Arifin (The Gardens of the Gnostics)

I said (i.e., al-Nawawi): Among the well-known for their large writings are Imam Abu 'Abdullah Muhammad ibn Idris al-Shafi'i, and Imam Abu al-Hasan al-Ash'ari, may God Almighty be pleased with them, and Imam Abu Bakr al-Bayhaqi listed the compilations/works of al-Shafi'i, and Imam Hafiz (hadith master, the highest rank of scholarship in hadith) of al-Sham (the Levant). Rather, Hafiz al-Dunya (Hafiz of the World) Abu al-Qasim, known as Ibn 'Asakir - may God Almighty be pleased with him - listed in his book: Tabyin Kadhib al-Muftari fima Nusiba ila al-Imam Abi al-Hasan al-Ash'ari, the compilations/works of al-Ash'ari is about three hundred work/book.

Al-Nawawi, "Bustan al-'Arifin (The Gardens of the Gnostics)".

In my opinion, this text is enough, or at least support the rest of the sources in the article.--TheEagle107 (talk) 01:54, 18 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

His birth date

edit

Was he born in 1230 or 1233, now? Also, it says he lived for 45 years which is true in the hijri sense but it’s the first time I’ve seen hijri used for age on Wiki. Michbruh (talk) 17:24, 17 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
