This term, when searched for via google as <yakutia taiga-alas> (without brackets), returns about 19K hits, mostly in scientific papers and such. So it is a legitimate word, although somewhat specialized.

The name should be changed to 'Alas', however, and the article needs to be rewritten in English, since it looks like (and probably is) a machine translation. --Marjaliisa (talk) 07:34, 7 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for finding this. I just couldn't find anything that would yield searches. Should the title be Alas (Taiga) like it is found in German Wikipedia? Ryan Vesey (talk) 14:56, 7 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
This looks good, I think - I'll take a stab at cleaning it up now that it's been moved.--Marjaliisa (talk) 20:56, 7 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Usually disambiguation words in parentheses are 1. something the article subject is or 2. the field where the article subject is studied. Names that follow this rule are Alas (landform) or Alas (geography). The name Alas (taiga) doesn't follow the rule, since an alas is not a region of taiga, but a landform found within the taiga biome. So I moved the article to Alas (geography). — Eru·tuon 22:48, 11 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

I don't have a problem with that. Like I said, I only moved it to "Alas (taiga)" because that is what German Wikipedia used. In addition, the article looked like this at the time, so I wasn't totally aware that it was a landform. I thought it was possibly a region. Ryan Vesey (talk) 22:56, 11 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
