City status

edit

Has the City merged with the other LGA by the same name? If it hasnt someone needs to make a distinction in the art SatuSuro 13:34, 24 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yes - the Town of Albany amalgamated with the Shire of Albany to form the City of Albany - not certain when though - there definetely should be some information in the article about the Council and its history.Dan arndt 05:35, 2 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Albany historical society web page

edit

I was listen to 6PR tonight and they gave a new just started web page for Albany historical Society. This site may have some useful information to expand this article and others on the region. --Gnangarra 13:26, 20 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

== Some mention should be made regarding the uniqueness of the pronunciation of "Albany" in this context - Is Albany W.A. the only place that pronounces its name with the first "a" as in "cat", rather than the long "a" that is common for other placenames with the same spelling? Roundabouts

edit

Surely there should be a mention of Albany being the largest town / city in WA (or even Australia?) without traffic lights, instead having hundreds of roundabouts, including the big one with Albany Hwy / Chester Pass Rd etc. I might do it tomorrow / later...

Hundreds???? Think it's now 55. 220.233.9.13 (talk) 01:26, 27 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Population

edit

I updated the population and removed various conflicting numbers. Not sure what the difference between the city and the LGA is. I also updated the population on the LGA articles using the ABS statistics. If anyone can do this better please do so. I didn't see population figures online that were not from the LGA.... Changed figure in infobox to census figure but there is another figure in the opening paragraph which is from the City of Albany (which is more current), should the census figure and ref be removed from the infobox (which are now a bit out of date) or should we leave both and wait for the 2011 census? --Hughesdarren (talk) 07:32, 13 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

pronunciation

edit

is the pronunciation al-BUN-ee correct? kwami 04:27, 22 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

No. It's "AL-bun-ee". But it's AL as in Sally, not AL as in Wall. Hesperian 04:31, 22 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Okay, I'll fix it to show that. kwami 06:10, 22 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. Hesperian 06:28, 22 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Does it use the right symbol for the "Al" sound? It isn't really like "Sally", it's more like "owl". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 220.253.38.80 (talk) 10:12, 17 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

first?

edit

The first commemorative dawn service was held here on Anzac Day, 25 April 1923. I've seen a plaque that refers to the dawn service in S. John's. This ref was in the article, but doesn't mention 1923. The same fact is in the article linked above, I'll mention it there. cygnis insignis 18:52, 1 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Wind Farm

edit

The wind farm in Albany has been increased in size from 12 to 18 turbines. (http://www.verveenergy.com.au/what-we-do/sustainable-portfolio/albany-wind-farm) Nevertheless it is by no means the largest in Australia as claimed. The wind farm on Yorke Peninsula in South Australia is much larger.
