Would you be interested in helping to expand the list of inductees located at Alberta Sports Hall of Fame? I notice there are many articles which link to the Hall of Fame, but are not listed. Also, I think creating Category:Alberta Sports Hall of Fame inductees would be a good idea. Any thoughts? Flibirigit (talk) 21:28, 22 February 2020 (UTC)
- Flibirigit Hi there! I am interested in getting all cowboy halls of fame into Wikipedia. That sometimes includes sports halls of fame. Alberta has a lot of ties to rodeo so yes. I could definitely help in getting the articles listed in the "What links here" link listed in the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame. (And also completing my task of making sure "and Museum" has been removed from each.) However, the actual hall of fame website has their inductees page under construction Honored Members, so adding a hall of fame section or a hall of fame article would have to wait until it is finished. Depending on the size on the hall of fame page and whether each inductee has their own page, I usually make a decision whether to make it a section in the main page or have it be an inductees page. But I do not have a firm rule about it, if you felt strongly one way or another, I would go with that. dawnleelynn(talk) 21:52, 22 February 2020 (UTC)
- The list would definitely be easier to put together when the Hall of Fame's web site is functional. I am comfortable including a person in the list so long as it is properly sourced on the individual's or team's own article. I'm not sure if a standalone list of inductees meets WP:LISTN for this Hall of Fame. I think it would be better to list on Alberta Sports Hall of Fame directly. Flibirigit (talk) 22:22, 22 February 2020 (UTC)
- Flibirigit Thanks for the reply. I agree on all points. Add the existing subjects from the what links here for now. We'll revisit the hall of fame inductees when the page is finished. dawnleelynn(talk) 22:58, 22 February 2020 (UTC)
- Okay, great. I expect to start this on Monday. Flibirigit (talk) 23:05, 22 February 2020 (UTC)

- Flibirigit Yes, that's fine. dawnleelynn(talk) 06:30, 23 February 2020 (UTC)

dawnleelynn, I have copied the previous conversation here, created Category:Alberta Sports Hall of Fame inductees, and populated it with the four persons listed in this article. I will try to add a few each day. Any help in filling in the rest is greatly appreciated. Flibirigit (talk) 04:19, 24 February 2020 (UTC)
- I think it would wise to convert the list of inductees into a sortable chart with columns for year of induction, name of inductee, description of inductee, and citations. Flibirigit (talk) 19:12, 24 February 2020 (UTC)
- Flibirigit I have looked at "Pages that link to "Alberta Sports Hall of Fame"" just now. I can't see what logic you are using to add the subjects from this list into the category. Thus, I am unsure whether to start from the top or the bottom or what. Plus, I didn't even know you were going to add a category until you did, but that's okay. Are you going to add more names from the link here list to the hall of fame table you created? I'm not quite sure what to do yet, but I'm still happy to help. Thanks...
- I started with the four inductees who were already on the page, then I went to "what links here" and Earl W. Bascom was the first name I saw. For each of the five inductees now listed, I make sure the person is placed in the correct category, the wikilink(s) is/are updated to Alberta Sports Hall of Fame, and the induction is cited. Then, I import the information to the table here. I hope that explains my progress. If it's easier, we can make a checklist here, then cross them off as each player is taken care of. Flibirigit (talk) 04:18, 25 February 2020 (UTC)
- I will make a checklist, because the order of the "what links here" list changes each time I go there. Flibirigit (talk) 04:20, 25 February 2020 (UTC)

Yes, we are seeing different orders in the links list. Here's what I see:
- Red Deer, Alberta (links | edit)
- Lanny McDonald (links | edit)
- Ron MacLean (links | edit)
- Mike Vernon (ice hockey) (links | edit)
- Earl W. Bascom (links | edit)
That explains it, thanks. dawnleelynn(talk) 04:25, 25 February 2020 (UTC)
Flibirigit Sorry I haven't pitched in yet. Huge personal issue came up. But I should have time starting tomorrow. dawnleelynn(talk) 16:01, 26 February 2020 (UTC)
- Flibirigit Hi, I'm looking at what is in the table here so far to get familiar. I checked the page with Check Links. Why are we making broken links to the honored members pages, which are still under construction? I want to add entries but I am not going to add broken links to an article. Let me see what I can add. dawnleelynn(talk) 04:08, 27 February 2020 (UTC)
- If the broken link is all I could find, it's better than nothing. They can usually be recovered in the Wayback archive, or be accepted by good faith. Working links are always best if possible. I'm going to try doing a few each day, but I am focusing on other things first. Please don't feel rushed to complete. Flibirigit (talk) 04:38, 27 February 2020 (UTC)
- Flibirigit Do what you feel is best of course. Perhaps the finished website for the hall will have different links for the individuals when completed though. Thanks for catching that I missed adding the category to the two articles last night. I just added Ray Knight and added the category too. Thanks for adding that this is not a rush. dawnleelynn(talk) 17:38, 27 February 2020 (UTC)
- Flibirigit P.S. If the links are different, I can use Autowikibrowser to do a search and replace. dawnleelynn(talk) 17:39, 27 February 2020 (UTC)
- Flibirigit Can you check Gregg Pilling that I added? I don't know ice hockey and wasn't sure exactly how that was supposed to go. Also, can you remove "and Museum" from the wikilinks and titles? We can get rid of the double direct if we remove all of them from the wikilinks. Thanks! :) dawnleelynn(talk) 00:40, 2 March 2020 (UTC)
- Since Pilling was inducted as part of a team, I removed him from the individual section, and added the two team entries instead. Pilling only played on the 1963 team btw. I recall from discussions at WP:SPORTS and WP:HOCKEY that the team is placed in the hall of fame category instead of the team members. I will check to see if that is still a consensus, and get back to you. Flibirigit (talk) 02:49, 2 March 2020 (UTC)
- I am considering listing each individual team member within the description field of the team entry. Flibirigit (talk) 04:03, 2 March 2020 (UTC)

Flibirigit That's fine with me. Let me know if you decide to do so. dawnleelynn(talk) 16:19, 2 March 2020 (UTC)
- I won't be online much for a few days. I will deal with the teams on Monday. Flibirigit (talk) 01:20, 6 March 2020 (UTC)
- I have begun to add the team members into the description field for the listings in the group section of the Hall of Fame. When I asked at WP:HOCKEY on how to categorize this, the only response agreed with my initial feeling of categoring just the team's page and not the individuals. Flibirigit (talk) 16:08, 6 March 2020 (UTC)
- http://archive.is/ohx5n I think the way you are doing it is just fine. dawnleelynn(talk) 04:05, 7 March 2020 (UTC)
- I think we should change the article assessment to class=list, instead of rating it. Long term goal could be a featured list. Flibirigit (talk) 14:58, 7 March 2020 (UTC)

Flibirigit Sorry, I have had a pretty big personal problem. But starting this weekend, I will have more free time and will be able to contribute more. dawnleelynn(talk) 01:05, 14 March 2020 (UTC)
- Flibirigit Having power outtages here due to melting ice on power lines. You'll have to give me more time to finish things. Outtages should be done by evening we're hoping. Thanks for crossing off Calkins. dawnleelynn(talk) 20:35, 15 March 2020 (UTC)
- I feel well have completed as much as we can for now, and it's time to close the discussion and archive it. I found nothing in the newspaperarchives for Bendiak's induction. The Alberta Sports Hall of Fame is still under construction. It seems unlikely that new sources will be found in the near future. I have restored the bottom header below to "Links to Alberta Sports Hall of Fame and Museum" so anyone can follow the discussion. I will check for the updated Alberta Sports Hall of Fame every couple weeks. I have started a follow-up section below. Thanks again for your help in completing this project. 2020 Inductees
editFlibirigit Hi, I just checked out the website and there is an induction scheduled for May 29. Perhaps the construction will be finished by then. Also, I did an update to Kelly Sutherland (chuckwagon). I noticed an article that includes him as a 2020 inductee. I found this article listing the 2020 inductees. The paper lists the article content as being from the hall of fame. Do we want to include these inductees in the current article perhaps? See [1]. Just a thought. dawnleelynn(talk) 15:57, 1 April 2020 (UTC)
- Sure, go ahead and add to 2020 inductes to this list using that source. I am working on other things for a while. I will come back to this probably in June. Flibirigit (talk) 17:48, 1 April 2020 (UTC)
