Coordinates are wrong: Aldeburgh is in the eastern hemisphere, not the western. BrendanH 11:57, 31 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Chip shop

edit

Is the chip shop really notable? sounds a bit like an ad to me. -R. fiend 19:55, 16 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

I've done a fair bit of fighting spam linking round here, but in this case it is probably more of a valid comment than an advert (and its not a link). I've visited Aldeburgh with a group of friends, half of whom were making a pilgrimage to a particular fish and chip shop towards the south end of the high street and on more than one occaision I've seen it with queues half way round the block. I seem to recal that there is a particularly noted fish and chip shop in Whitby too. -- Solipsist 21:02, 16 October 2005 (UTC)Reply
Yes, absolutely true on all counts (in fact the owners have two shops on the high street); the shop has been talked up in a number of national newspapers (see for example, The Observer). The Magpie Café is probably the one you're thinking about in Whitby. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 12:55, 17 October 2005 (UTC)Reply
The reference given for the brilliance of the three fish and chip shops is now 13 years old. This is getting ridiculous. Some kind of up-to-date reference needs to be produced or the fish and chip shops need to come out of the text. Bmcln1 (talk) 14:25, 25 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Standards

edit

I have tried to do a stylistic tidy of the whole page. I have to say I thought the standard of English was poor. Even the punctuation and spelling were awry. There's not much more I can do as an outsider. Is there nobody literate in this town, which ostensibly prides itself on its culture, who wants to take the page in hand and keep it coherent? Whole subject areas are still missing. I have nothing against fish and chips, but should they come in the lead, and is that the only type of commercial or catering outfit you have in town? Whitby might be one example to follow but there are countless other smaller towns whose pages have a structure worth following.Bmcln1 (talk) 19:10, 8 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
