File:A-honnold-photo-Selin-Cerbo.jpg Nominated for speedy Deletion

edit
An image used in this article, File:A-honnold-photo-Selin-Cerbo.jpg, has been nominated for speedy deletion at Wikimedia Commons for the following reason: Copyright violations
What should I do?

Don't panic; deletions can take a little longer at Commons than they do on Wikipedia. This gives you an opportunity to contest the deletion (although please review Commons guidelines before doing so). The best way to contest this form of deletion is by posting on the image talk page.

  • If the image is non-free then you may need to upload it to Wikipedia (Commons does not allow fair use)
  • If the image isn't freely licensed and there is no fair use rationale then it cannot be uploaded or used.
  • If the image has already been deleted you may want to try Commons Undeletion Request

Funding?

edit

I get his love for climbing but I think casual readers would like to know how he funds all of it. If he has sponsors, who are they? --Hooperbloob (talk) 00:52, 3 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

He is sponsored by climbing companies mostly. Was dropped by Clif Bar for free soloing along with a bunch of other climbers, which might be an interesting addition to the page. [1] -- Spacepine (talk) 14:08, 3 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
Thats fascinating, I had no idea. I definitely think it should be included to reflect that Alex and others exploits don't left everyone rest easy.--Hooperbloob (talk) 08:45, 5 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

First Solo of El Capitan?

edit

With the new movie coming out and reading this wiki, I’m confused to when he actually free solo’d El Capitan first. I remembered watching him during Reel Rock Film Tour Climbing these big walls alone and even a 60 minute special. What was he climbing if he wasn’t climbing El Cap? This article which I found from the Reel Rock 7 Film says he climbed El Cap and two other big walls in 24 hours back in 2012. https://www.climbing.com/news/honnolds-biggest-baddest-solo-yet/ AdamWillis (talk) 22:41, 3 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

He free solo'd the Half Dome (across the valley) years ago. He had solo'd El Cap previously (which meant he did it alone, but using equipment, unlike free soloing). The terminology can be confusing for non climbers - can you improve it? --Spacepine (talk) 02:07, 11 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

4.7 high school GPA

edit

After graduating with a 4.7 GPA from Mira Loma High School in 2003...

The cited source is a YouTube video of Honnold saying, "I graduated with, like, a 4.7 or something." Let me count the ways this content is wrong. 1. A BLP subject is not a reliable source for his or her own GPA. 2. His statement is, like, vague and off-the-cuff or something. 3. In all American high schools that I'm aware of, a 4.0 GPA is perfect, so you can't have a 4.7. This is supported at Grading in education#United States.

I'm removing the GPA and just wanted to give a more thorough explanation than the space of an edit summary permits. I'm also removing the citation—even if it supports the name of the high school and the year of graduation, it's not a reliable source for that either. ―Mandruss  02:44, 1 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

I agree with this removal. (As a small note, I'll point out that many US high schools have a system in which honors or AP classes can add an extra point, allowing for GPAs up to 5, so it's certainly possible for him to have had a 4.7 GPA. But I agree it's poorly cited, and more importantly, not really relavent.) Amalex5 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 03:23, 1 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
