high school carrer
editI started the high school carrer could someone add more to it
Neutral Point of View
edit"He has struggled mightily so far this season. He has been sacked 19 times, has yet to throw a touchdown pass and has thrown nine interceptions for a QB rating of 24.7. This could be attributed to their lack of talent and productivity on offense. Furthermore, some in the NFL have gone so far as to compare Smith to a "bust" rather than a "boom." Some still question the 49ers' willingness to draft a quarterback despite the team having three serviceable quarterbacks prior to the 2005 season."
I dont believe that this paragraph conforms to the Neutral Point of View policy here on Wikipedia. It is full of opinions, rather than straight fact. - Seandals 11:56, 15 December 2005 (UTC) This article is not neutral, it sound throughout like his mom wrote it.
I don't believe the entire page conforms to the Neutral Point of View policy. Every description of his career's yearly summary is filled with only positive statements, with a decidedly apologetic tone for any derogatory statistic or fact. The article as a whole is an editorial.Chuongster (talk) 23:20, 17 August 2014 (UTC)
Error
editTo dr31 (I think?)--you're confusing Matt Cassel (the Pats first pick in the seventh round) with Andy Stokes (their second pick, and Mr. Irrelevant). I've fixed the error. Stismail 18:03, 27 January 2006 (UTC)
Image
editI added a Getty image of Alex Smith - thought it might dress up the article a bit.
- Just how appropriate is a picture of the back of his head? HaikenEdge (talk) 03:55, 30 August 2009 (UTC)
- Until a free image of Smith that may be more suitable for the infobox can be found. If so, the sidleine image can be used to show Smith's 2008 status. --BrokenSphereMsg me 05:06, 30 August 2009 (UTC)
- I agree the current photo is stupid. Better off having no photo at all. 148.87.1.172 (talk) 18:39, 28 September 2009 (UTC)
Added
editI added some content - expanded greatly on the high school career and the 2006 season sections (which both really didn't have much in them), updated the colors and tried to improve this article. I also reorganized it to fit the more traditional style of NFL quarterbacks (See entries for quarterbacks such as Peyton Manning for that style).
I'll spend some more time on it this weekend to make it as good as possible. I'll attempt to expand on his college section, and rework some of the clumsy grammer and other such nitpicky problems. ~GambitMG
Colors
editOMFG, what the hell, leave the colors to what I set them. The 49ers are a deep crimson red and gold, not that pink shit that it was set at. I'd go do this edit to every 49ers player on wiki, but I don't want to do it right now. So please for the love of all that is holy, LEAVE THE COLORS ALONE!!! GambitMG 22:25, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
- The colors down at the bottom on his record at the U of U are messed up. The black text on the dark red cannot be seen at all.
Place of birth
editIn "The ESPN Pro Football Encyclopedia" and the Weblinks was Seattle the Place of Birth. Only in this Article is Bremerton the Place of Birth. Gulp 08:35, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
- on the yahoo data it also says Seattle as the place of birth. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.121.247.116 (talk) 03:05, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
I am pretty sure that Smith was born in Bremerton, WA. It was during the time of his birth that his father was football coach at Olympic High School in Bremerton. I suppose it is possible that Seattle is listed on his bio because Seattle is a more familiar city to most folks. Here is a December 2011 article from the Kitsap Sun that states Smith's birthplace as Bremerton. <<http://pugetsoundblogs.com/stark/2011/12/22/ho-ho-ho-links-on-marvin-prince-alex-smith-fat-kids-and-kellen-moore/>> Wazzu1982 (talk) 01:43, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
Here is an article from 20 January 2012, that has Bremerton, WA, listed as his birthplace. <<http://www.kitsapsun.com/news/2012/jan/20/doug-smith-brought-olympic-to-rare-heights/>> — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wazzu1982 (talk • contribs) 20:58, 23 January 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for the sources. pugetsoundblogs.com is also part of Kitsap Sun. I would like to see more independent sources listing Bremerton, as pretty much every other sources lists Seattle. Unfortunately, sometimes the more familiar city is listed, but we have no way of knowing which is correct. Multiple sources would make it more credible.—Bagumba (talk) 21:36, 23 January 2012 (UTC)
- The second article cited insinuates that the Smith family was living in Seattle during Smith's father's tenure at Olympic HS. It could be that he commuted to work in Bremerton from Seattle via the Bremerton/Seattle Ferry. It's quite common for people to live on one side of the Puget Sound and to work on the other. In that case it would make sense for Smith to have been born in Seattle. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.113.110.36 (talk) 19:55, 18 March 2012 (UTC)
LSAT Score
editAccording to the article, he got a 179 on his LSATs. I did my best to find a source for this information and couldn't find it so it's being removed - if someone does find a source, feel free to put it back but be sure to cite it. Denkc 10:10, 31 October 2007 (UTC)
4.4 GPA?
editIs that possible? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.213.14.98 (talk) 06:16, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, it's possible if you have college credits, honors classes, ect. With regular classes, the highest you can get is a 4.0. It actually kind of depends on a school by school basis. RF23 (talk) 23:01, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

Contract Status
editI just noticed on the 49ers website, that Alex Smith is not currently listed on the team's roster page. Are they re-signing him? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.66.64.225 (talk) 19:36, 14 March 2012 (UTC)

- At what point can we consider these disruptive and have this talk page semi-protected? Lizard (talk) 04:09, 1 February 2018 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, when editors place an edit request, the system does not show them the rest of the talk page.—Bagumba (talk) 05:40, 1 February 2018 (UTC)

Alex Smith's personal edits were removed
editA user named "ActuallyAlexSmith84" made edits to this page on February 18, 2021 with quotes from Alex Smith. They were removed as "unreferenced quote", which is of course totally reasonable. However, it turns out that "ActuallyAlexSmith84" is...actually Alex Smith. He added the quotes as part of GQ Sports YouTube series called "[Famous Sports Personality] Goes Undercover".
You can see Alex himself making the edits to this page from approximately 2:00 to 5:00 in this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8LWzhZCvST0
Here are his edits that were removed:
https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Alex_Smith&type=revision&diff=1007413554&oldid=1007413367
So it was accurate to say that they were unreferenced at the time, but now the video of him typing out the quotes himself could be referenced. I can recopy the text back into this page, but I'm curious if a more advanced user know how restore/merge his revision back into this page, using the YouTube video as a citation?
It's very cool that he added some new original quotes to this page, would hate for that to be lost. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rimpinths (talk • contribs) 05:53, 27 February 2021 (UTC)
Agreed. It's technically a primary source that can be cited! OrlandoApollosFan69 (talk) 10:25, 10 June 2021 (UTC)
Missing awards
editShould add Sporting News Player of the Year and First-team All-MWC. Both awarded in 2004. KooperCupp (talk) 00:17, 15 October 2022 (UTC)
- Looks like you did.—Bagumba (talk) 02:40, 15 October 2022 (UTC)
Page protection
editWhat earthly reason is there for page protection (requiring edits to be reviewed before being accepted) here? I went back 1,500 edits (into 2021) and gave up looking at that point when it had been instituted. Alex Smith is not a controversial topic. If there had ever been a rash of vandalism suggesting such protection was necessary, it's over now. Things can return to normal. There are way more tempting targets than this which are not restricted so without cause. 2601:196:180:DC0:14B3:9DC0:9BD9:C9E5 (talk) 19:39, 16 January 2024 (UTC)
- Oh, User:TylerKutschbach. Did he just pop up, or has he been hazing it since some time before 2021? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:196:180:DC0:14B3:9DC0:9BD9:C9E5 (talk) 19:46, 16 January 2024 (UTC)
- I just went back over 50 reverts (into May of 2021) and found no more Tyler Kutschbach sock-puppet reverts beyond those of today; virtually every one was of an unregistered user. Random unregistered users, in good faith and bad. In other words, just like any other normal Wikipedia page. I repeat my suggestion that the need for edits to be approved as if this was some inherently controversial or natural flytrap page has passed, whatever it was, whenever it was.2601:196:180:DC0:14B3:9DC0:9BD9:C9E5 (talk) 19:57, 16 January 2024 (UTC)
- Scrolling up to return to the main Smith page I see that the request for protection goes back to December of 2013. Eleven years is plenty enough. Any administrators out there? How about it? 2601:196:180:DC0:14B3:9DC0:9BD9:C9E5 (talk) 20:00, 16 January 2024 (UTC)
