Oen or Øn ?

edit

I see the only editors to this article are Norwegian contributors, so it is probably Oen, but as most oe's in Norwegian become ø I was wondering whether we should change this article's title or not. SportsAddicted | discuss 20:29, 9 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Definitely not. It's Oen. Good question tho. (I do wonder what would have happened had Morten Øen been an athlete ;) ) Sam Vimes | Address me 20:33, 9 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
OK, then we leave it like this ;) I guess Morten's name can be written as Oeen as well then ? SportsAddicted | discuss 20:53, 9 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Dale Oen or Oen ?

edit

Should his referent be "Dale Oen" rather than just "Oen"? In the U.S. (where he goes/went to college) it's both last names.... Hooperswim (talk) 12:59, 1 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

It's Oen. It is common for Norwegians to have two (or more) family names, however, there is no ambiguity that only the last one officially classifies as last name. The only exception is where the names are hyphenated. __meco (talk) 16:50, 1 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
True, it would be illegal to create a family name of two elements like this now, but some people have them by grandfather-clause. I'm afraid the question is not answered this easily. Greswik (talk) 18:36, 1 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
If you are referring to how people are referenced, I agree. Then it's basically anything goes in Norway. There is hardly any consistency in the matter anywhere, as we can observe in the matter of Anders Behring Breivik who is randomly referred to as both Breivik and Behring Breivik. However, when it comes to formatting the name formally by last name, then the only correct way is the way it's currently done by me on the present article, i.e. "Oen, Alexander Dale". __meco (talk) 21:03, 1 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Incorrect, it's Dale Oen, since both are surnames. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.182.52.250 (talk) 08:44, 20 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

1 May

edit

1 May is used as the death date here in Norway. "30 April" is now cited (!) to a source which explicitly says "tirsdag morgen" = Tuesday morning = 1 May. The family posted a remembrance announcement in Aftenposten, and it too says 1 May. Might be 30 April in American time or something, but let's use what the family uses. How did Oen die? Drowning? --98.109.248.75 (talk) 22:21, 12 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
