Alexei Vasilevsky (ice hockey) → Alexei Vasilevsky – over redirect (disambiguation not required) – Dolovis (talk) 02:48, 24 April 2014 (UTC)
- Note: Something is wrong about this request. At the present time, Alexei Vasilevsky redirects to Alexei Vasilevski (last letter on name is an "i" instead of a "y"). Steel1943 (talk) 03:16, 24 April 2014 (UTC)
- Oppose: The difference in romanization of 'y' versus 'i' is minor so we shouldn't use that for disambiguation. One option is to retain Alexei Vasilevsky (ice hockey) and Alexei Vasilevski (figure skater), and use hatnotes to connect them. Neither of them looks to be the primary topic, though the hockey player has articles in both the German and Russian Wikipedias. There was an earlier hockey player Alexei Vasilevsky (born 1975) who played in the NHL and thus might be better known, though we don't yet have an article on him. EdJohnston (talk) 04:08, 24 April 2014 (UTC)
- @EdJohnston: I was doing a bit of "skimming" through these articles, and ... well, that point you brought up about not having an article for a "Alexei Vasilevsy (born 1975)"? Well, it seems as though that subject already exists at Alexander Vasilevski (ice hockey, born 1975) ("i" instead of "y", and English version of first name). This essentially confirms the point about how confusion due to spelling is inevitable. Steel1943 (talk) 16:24, 24 April 2014 (UTC)
- Oppose all five individuals are called Алексей Василевский so both Alexei +y and Alexei +i should both be redirects to the Alexander Vasilevsky dab page. None of them other than Aleksandr Vasilevsky the marshall is especially notable for an encyclopedia. I have put (figure skater) back on the figure skater which wasn't bold, and moved Alexander Vasilevski (the other hockey player Ed Johnston mentions) to Alex Vasilevski (ice hockey, born 1975) which may be bold or not but is in line with Commonname and hockey dab. In ictu oculi (talk) 07:43, 24 April 2014 (UTC)
- Oppose keep dab per in ictu oculi, no clear wp:primary topic. walk victor falk talk 11:59, 24 April 2014 (UTC)
- Oppose per In ictu oculi. Also, with that reasoning, this page should probably be moved to Alexei Vasilevsky (ice hockey, born 1993) per WP:NCPDAB. Steel1943 (talk) 13:16, 24 April 2014 (UTC)
- Disambiguation is not required for any of these articles as each person has a unique commonly used name. “Alexander Vasilevsky”can be transcribed from Russian is several ways, all of which may be considered correct. But WP:COMMONNAME tells us that we should use the most commonly used name found in English-language sources. If we follow wiki-policy, the articles should be moved as follows:
- Aleksandr Vasilevsky – stays where is.
- Alex Vasilevsky (software developer) moves to Alex Vasilevsky
- Alexander Vasilevski (ice hockey, born 1975) moves to Alexander Vasilevski
- Alexei Vasilevsky (figure skater) moves to Alexei Vasilevski (the name used within the article)
- Alexei Vasilevsky (ice hockey) moves to Alexei Vasilevsky
- Each article would have a hat note pointing to the disambiguation page Alexander Vasilevsky, to properly direct any user who is looking for a different person of the same name. Dolovis (talk) 15:10, 24 April 2014 (UTC)
- Disagree. The minor differences in spelling of these similarly-pronounced names make them all the same title, for disambiguation purposes. Confusion is inevitable, and removing disambiguation could cause several bad article links, rather that links to a disambiguation page (which is preferred over bad article links, even though the links pointing towards the disambiguation page should then be disambiguated, in turn.) Steel1943 (talk) 15:50, 24 April 2014 (UTC)
- Agree with Steel1943. Ambiguous disambiguators do not disambiguate. This would completely guarantee botched pipelinks, confusion, users believing that ice hockey players really are figure skaters, and tears all around. walk victor falk talk 00:12, 25 April 2014 (UTC)
- As per all other editors. The above displays an unfortunate misunderstanding of WP:CRITERIA. And yes this article should be at Alexei Vasilevsky (ice hockey, born 1993) as said above. In ictu oculi (talk) 18:07, 28 April 2014 (UTC)

- Oppose per Steel1943. -DJSasso (talk) 16:09, 24 April 2014 (UTC)
- Oppose: Minor differences in how a term is transcribed into English or shortened generally do not seem to be adequate disambiguation. —BarrelProof (talk) 18:52, 25 April 2014 (UTC)
- Oppose and retarget Alexei Vasilevsky to the disambiguation page. bd2412 T 16:50, 26 April 2014 (UTC)
